Monster Hunter Trailer Released by Sony

Sony Pictures has released the first trailer for Monster Hunter. With Milla Jovovich in the leading role, this serves as an adaptation of the popular video game series of the same name. And it certainly lives up to the name based on the trailer. There are indeed monsters and there is some hunting going on. Have a look.

Paul W.S. Anderson, who worked with Jovovich on the Resident Evil franchise, is in the director’s chair. Anderson also penned the screenplay. The cast also includes Tony Jaa, Tip ‘T.I.’ Harris, Meagan Good, Diego Boneta, Josh Helman, Jin Au-Yeung and Ron Perlman

Here is the official synopsis for Monster Hunter

“Behind our world, there is another: a world of dangerous and powerful monsters that rule their domain with deadly ferocity. When an unexpected sandstorm transports Captain Artemis (Milla Jovovich) and her unit (TI Harris, Meagan Good, Diego Boneta) to a new world, the soldiers are shocked to discover that this hostile and unknown environment is home to enormous and terrifying monsters immune to their firepower. In their desperate battle for survival, the unit encounters the mysterious Hunter (Tony Jaa), whose unique skills allow him to stay one step ahead of the powerful creatures. As Artemis and Hunter slowly build trust, she discovers that he is part of a team led by the Admiral (Ron Perlman). Facing a danger so great it could threaten to destroy their world, the brave warriors combine their unique abilities to band together for the ultimate showdown.”

The film is based on the best-selling video game series of the same name. The games began in 2004, with a series of sequels being released over the years. The most recent entry, Monster Hunter: World, was released in 2018 and has become a huge success.

Sony had delayed the film to 2021 at one point. However, as more big movies have left 2020, the studio saw an opening to possibly capitalize on a lack of competition at the box office and will release it in time for New Year’s weekend. Whether or not that strategy pays off remains to be seen. As we saw recently with The New Mutants and Tenet, it is tough to get moviegoers to theaters right now.

Monster Hunter is set to hit theaters on December 30.
