The beginning of the end for Marvel’s Multiverse Saga is just around the corner. That’s because Avengers: Doomsday is going to begin filming very, very soon. This will be the beginning of the end for Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with the Russo Brothers coming back for the first time since Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Once again, they’re tasked with closing out a massive saga with a double whammy of massive Avengers films. That all starts with Doomsday.
In a recent piece by The Wrap, it’s revealed that Avengers: Doomsday will officially begin filming in March. What’s more, the report explains that the film will set up shop in England. This will be the first time since Age of Ultron that one of the Avengers entries filmed in the U.K. Both Infinity War and Endgame were filmed in Atlanta.
Joe and Anthony Russo announced their return to Marvel last summer during San Diego Comic-Con. It was also revealed that Robert Downey Jr., who previously played Iron Man, would suit up as the evil Doctor Doom. Avengers: Doomsday, which hits theaters next summer, will be followed up by Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027. Secret Wars is due to be the final installment in the Multiverse Saga.
Marvel is sparing no expense to bring back the Russo Brothers and RDJ. Doomsday and Secret Wars are expected to cost a fortune, even more than Infinity War and Endgame. But Marvel Studios had to scramble after their plans for Kang had to be scrapped. Actor Jonathan Majors was fired after being convicted of assault. That forced the studio to pivot, which led to Downey coming on board as Doom. Originally, the next Avengers movie was going to be titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
“Endgame was the end, and it took a little time for us to begin to think about it as something other than an end,” Anthony Russo previously explained to Empire Magazine. “We’re very close with Kevin and Lou [D’Esposito] and the entire Marvel team and we’ve had conversations through the years. We’ve talked about a lot of ideas. Really what happened was, we ended up stumbling upon an idea that activated all of us. You couldn’t see it coming until it came, and once it came it was like, ‘Well, that’s a story we need to tell.’”
Plot details for Doomsday are largely being kept under wraps at this point. The cast for both films are expected to be massive, with current and former Marvel stars returning for the big show. Even TV stars such as Charlie Cox’s Daredevil are set to appear in Doomsday, if not Secret Wars as well. That’s just what has been revealed. Undoubtedly, Marvel and the Russos are going to have quite a few surprises for us in store as well.
Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on May 1, 2026. Avengers: Secret Wars will follow on May 7, 2027.
