Justice League: The Snyder Cut May Finally Be Released

At long last, the fabled Snyder Cut of Justice League is said to be coming our way. This, according to Heroic Hollywood, who provided a major update on the film for DC fans recently. As part of a video explaining the history of the Snyder Cut, it was revealed that Zack Snyder recently held a screening of his cut with DC executives in attendance. What’s more, the video explains that some sort of release is imminent. Have a look.

“Zack Snyder held a private screening of his cut of Justice League in the first quarter of 2020 with executives from DC in attendance,” the outlet says. “According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, something is happening with Snyder’s cut of the film and discussions are currently underway.”

“We do not know if the Snyder Cut is preparing for a special one-time-only fan screening, or whether the film will be released on either streaming platforms or home media,” the video states. “However, a theatrical release is highly unlikely.”

The most likely option is that the Snyder Cut of Justice League will be released on HBO Max. The streaming service is set to launch later this month and will be the main hub for Warner Bros. content in the future. A high-profile release such as this could help attract subscribers in the early days. The video also suggests that a one-time fan screening could be on the table. That said, if the studio is going to pay what it costs to finish Snyder’s vision for the movie, they would likely want to capitalize beyond a single screening.

Zack Snyder began directing Justice League shortly after the release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Warner Bros. didn’t anticipate the film’s divisive nature. This led to creative differences behind the scenes. Following a family tragedy, Snyder departed the project. Joss Whedon (The Avengers) came in to oversee extensive rewrites and reshoots. Though Snyder is credited as director, the theatrical cut does not represent his vision.

In the years since the film’s release in 2017, fans have been campaigning for the studio to “release the Snyder Cut.” Those calls may have finally worked.

Here is the official synopsis for Justice League.

“Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.”
