Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness Arrives On Disney+ June 22

Heads up, Marvel fans! Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is coming to Disney+ later this month. It has been revealed that director Sam Raimi’s Marvel Cinematic Universe sequel will debut on the streaming service on June 22. That means it will be available from the comfort of home about six and a half weeks after it initially hit theaters.

This is becoming a new normal in the wake of the pandemic. Before 2020, big blockbusters would typically not be available at home until nearly three months after the original release. Now? Big superhero movies can hit streaming as soon as 45 days after they hit theaters. Meanwhile, it has not yet been confirmed when the Blu-ray/DVD will hit shelves. Though we can likely expect word on that front sometime soon. Expect to see it in July, perhaps a few weeks after the streaming debut.

Here is the synopsis for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

“In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the MCU unlocks the Multiverse and pushes its boundaries further than ever before. Journey into the unknown with Doctor Strange, who, with the help of mystical allies both old and new, traverses the mind-bending and dangerous alternate realities of the Multiverse to confront a mysterious new adversary.”

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has proved to be a huge hit for Marvel Studios and Disney. The film originally arrived on May 6 and became the second-biggest opening at the box office since the pandemic began. To date, it has earned $880 million worldwide, far exceeding the total of the original Doctor Strange. Much of that has to do with the fact that Benedict Cumberbatch has appeared elsewhere in the MCU since his debut. The actor starred in Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: No Way Home. That provided a major boost to his profile.

Raimi, who previously directed the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man movies, made his return to superhero filmmaking after nearly 15 years away. It was Raimi’s first feature directorial effort since Oz the Great and Powerful in 2014. The movie also stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, Michael Stühlbarg and Rachel McAdams. Kevin Feige is the producer, with Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Eric Hauserman Carroll and Jamie Christopher serving as executive producers. The screenplay was written by Michael Waldron (Loki).

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is in theaters now.
