We thought that critics would be barred from expressing their reactions to Wonder Woman until May 31, but we were most definitely wrong. The social media embargo has already been officially lifted! In contrast to the critics’ reactions to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad, the positive vibes are flowing.
The first batch of non-spoiler Twitter reactions clearly establishes that Wonder Woman has won the critics’ hearts. Many have said that the movie is easily the best DC Extended Universe installment to date, and it includes everything we could have asked for. They’re singing the praises of director Patty Jenkins and the entire cast, singling out Gal Gadot and Chris Pine.
Critics speak highly of the action sequences in the June 2, 2017 release, but the critics seem to be most impressed with the movie’s humor and heart, qualities they felt were missing in previous DCEU installments. One tweet terms the movie "flawless", but others admit that it has a few negligible imperfections. Check out some of the critics' tweets below!
@WonderWomanFilm is everything you want in a #WonderWoman movie & more. It’s the film even DCU critics will love.

Franchise Fred approves @WonderWomanFilm. Truly inspiring, I got choked up seeing WW triumphantly charge into battle. @GalGadot @PattyJenks

Loved WONDER WOMAN. She reminds me of Christopher Reeve’s Superman: true north superhero w/no angst or cynicism, which is needed right now.
"” Mike Ryan (@mikeryan) May 19, 2017
Easily the best of the DCEU. And I liked MAN OF STEEL. It’s part CAPTAIN AMERICA: FIRST AVENGER and part “fish out of water” THOR 1.
"” Mike Ryan (@mikeryan) May 19, 2017
2. Gal Godot is absolutely phenomenal as #WonderWoman. She KILLS it, just surprisingly good. A truly heroic light DCEU desperately needs.
"” Alisha Grauso (@AlishaGrauso) May 19, 2017
3. Rough parts? Sure. But guys, guys, YOU GUYS! You’ll truly LAUGH. And you’ll walk out, for once, feeling downright inspired by a DC movie.

The embargo has officially lifted, so here it goes: WONDER WOMAN is, against all odds, pretty damn wondrous.
"” Anna Klassen (@AnnaJKlassen) May 19, 2017
Jenkins’ WONDER WOMAN is fearless, brave, sex positive (really!), & rescues the film’s resident damsel, Steve Trevor, from certain death ??
"” Anna Klassen (@AnnaJKlassen) May 19, 2017
#WonderWoman is the 1st film in the DCEU whose fight sequences don’t feel entirely CGI/video game-esque, & that alone is huge accomplishment
"” Anna Klassen (@AnnaJKlassen) May 19, 2017
Was not convinced Gadot could pull it off with her cameo in BATMAN V SUPERMAN, but she fucking nails it in WONDER WOMAN
"” Anna Klassen (@AnnaJKlassen) May 19, 2017
Wonder Woman is the DC movie I’ve been waiting for. It’s exciting, inspiring, funny, and has some truly awe-inspiring action scenes.
"” Germain Lussier (@GermainLussier) May 19, 2017
There are certainly some issues, like a mismatched 3rd act, but I’ll discuss that in a longer review. Overall though, Wonder Woman rules.
"” Germain Lussier (@GermainLussier) May 19, 2017
WONDER WOMAN: Easily my favorite DCEU film. Has the humor and heart the franchise so desperately needs. Gadot and Pine are charming as hell.
"” Kate Erbland (@katerbland) May 19, 2017
#WonderWoman is the best DCEU film so far. The heart of Gal Gadot’s Diana powers it, and the shift from mythic into WWI story really works.
"” (((Eric Eisenberg))) (@eeisenberg) May 19, 2017
Chris Pine as Steve Trevor is also my favorite Chris Pine performance. #WonderWoman

Last #WonderWoman thought for now: I didn’t know how much I needed this movie until I was tearing up, watching these women fight – and win.
"” Rachel Simon (@Rachel_Simon) May 19, 2017

The embargo on full reviews is still in effect, so we’ll have to wait a little longer for full reviews. But it could be safe to say that the Rotten Tomatoes score for the Patty Jenkins flick won't be anywhere near those for the disastrous Zack Snyder and David Ayer DCEU flicks.
It would be interesting to see whether the overwhelmingly positive critical reaction boosts Wonder Woman's box office tracking figures. The last we heard, tracking had the movie pointed toward a $65 million debut in North America. While that would be a decent start, it’s significantly lower than the previous DCEU debuts.
