Deadpool & Wolverine - Marvel Studios

Marvel has released a brand new trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine. This is the first full-length trailer for the long-awaited sequel, which serves as Deadpool’s official introduction to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The previous trailer, which was released in February during the Super Bowl, was very much just a teaser. This time, we get a much larger dose of Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman teaming up as Wade Wilson and Logan. It’s every bit as chaotic as one would expect. Check it out.

While the trailer doesn’t give too much of the plot away, this is yet another MCU movie that is dealing with the multiverse. It appears like this might not be the same version of Wolverine that we saw in 2017’s Logan. Spoiler alert, but Jackman’s Wolverine dies in that movie. It seems the mutliverse is allowing for Jackman to return without sullying the beloved 2017 film. Beyond that, there is lots of cursing, lots of blood, and plenty of Easter eggs to go around. Plus, we finally see Wolverine in his iconic yellow suit from the comics.

Curiously, Marvel has not released an official synopsis for the film yet. That speaks volumes about what they are probably hiding from audiences. We know there will be plenty of cameos from throughout the Marvel multiverse. Only a few of those have (officially) come to light so far. Director Shawn Levy, speaking at CinemaCon earlier this month, had this to say about making the movie.

“This movie was built for audience joy. That was our North Star. It was a blast to make. It was a blast to make, first of all, because if you’re a director and you get to play in the most audacious sandbox there is, which is the phenomenal Deadpool franchise, you count yourself lucky every day. Which I did.”

Levy previously worked with Reynolds on Netflix’s The Adam Project. He is the third director to take a stab at the franchise. Tim Miller directed 2016’s Deadpool, while David Leitch directed 2018’s Deadpool 2. Both films were huge successes, taking in a combined $1.5 billion at the global box office. Despite being produced by Disney, the third film in the franchise will be R-rated, like its predecessors. It will be the first R-rated film in the history of the MCU

The cast also includes Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni and Matthew Macfadyen. Emma Corrin is playing the main villain, Cassandra Nova.

Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige is producing the film alongside Reynolds, Levy and Lauren Shuler Donner. Louis D’Esposito, Wendy Jacobson, Mary McLaglen, Josh McLaglen, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, George Dewey and Simon Kinberg are on board as executive producers. The film was written by Reynolds, Reese, Wernick, Levy and Zeb Wells.

Deadpool & Wolverine is set to hit theaters on July 16.
