We know that Warner Bros. has a Swamp Thing series in the works for its new DC Universe streaming service, and that Aquaman director James Wan will serve as an executive producer. It now appears that he’ll take on another vital behind-the-scenes role.
According to That Hashtag Show, Wan has agreed to direct the Swamp Thing series’ inaugural episode. But he won't be calling the shots alone, as THS added that Deran Sarafian will co-direct.
Wan's experience with Aquaman – a project that Warner Bros. is pretty confident about – and his history in the horror genre are sure to have an impact on the pilot. However, his only small-screen project to date was the pilot for CBS' MacGyver reboot. But Sarafian, whose TV credits include Buffy the Vampire Slayer, House, and Fringe, will be able to take up the slack in that department.
The other executive producers of the Swamp Thing series are Mark Verheiden (Ash vs. The Evil Dead), Gary Dauberman (It) and Michael Clear (Annabelle: Creation) will also co-produce the Swamp Thing series, which is slated to debut on DC Universe sometime in 2019. Here's the series’ official description:
When CDC researcher Abby Arcane returns to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana, in order to investigate a deadly swamp-borne virus, she develops a surprising bond with scientist Alec Holland"”only to have him tragically taken from her. But as powerful forces descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp's mysterious properties for their own purposes, Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets, both horrifying and wondrous"”and the potential love of her life may not be dead after all.
