Marvel’s “X-Men” storyline is taking the mutants on Krakoa through a transformative journey. With their own rules and resurrection protocols, the X-Men are building a better future on the living island. However, new threats like Orchis and the upcoming “X-Men: Hellfire Gala” hint at the potential fall of Krakoa. As a result, the mutants may face another new normal in the future. Stay tuned for more developments!
At the San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Comics showed fans the X-Men’s future during the Designing the X-Men: A This Week in the Marvel panel. Several exciting hints were dropped, leaving fans curious about what’s to come.
What’s Coming Up Next for the X-Men
The first image hints at the upcoming “New X-Men” comic, set to be released in 2024. While the details are scarce, the logo used in the image resembles the one from the “Age of Apocalypse” event’s “The Astonishing X-Men” miniseries. This raises questions about whether it pays homage to Grant Morrison’s acclaimed run or revives the dramatic shifts seen in the “Age of Apocalypse” timeline. While many possibilities exist, we’ll have to wait for more information to be sure.
The second teaser introduces an exciting project called “X-Men Blue: Origins.” Illustrated by Francis Manapul, the artwork features Nightcrawler wearing the “Uncanny Spider-Man” costume, which he’ll sport in the upcoming miniseries by Si Spurrier and Lee Garbett. The image also shows Nightcrawler’s mother, Mystique, wielding two guns as they make their escape from a colossal robot hand, possibly belonging to one of the Stark Sentinels.
Lastly, the cover art for “X-Men” #29 by Joshua Cassara provides a glimpse of the aftermath of the “Fall of X.” The illustration depicts Wolverine, Ms. Marvel, and other mutants engaged in an intense battle, with Doctor Doom overseeing the conflict. The artwork hints at potential discord among Marvel’s mutants following the fall of Krakoa while also suggesting that Victor Von Doom might seize the opportunity to assert his authority or persuade some mutants to join his cause.
Although the teasers leave much to the imagination about the X-Men universe’s future, they offer captivating clues about what lies ahead for the characters. Stay tuned to Looper for further updates on the comics and for more news from San Diego Comic-Con.
