The Avengers are bracing to face a new, unexpected threat. Marvel has just announced World War She-Hulk, which kicks off this summer. The storyline will begin in the pages of Avengers #46. Hulk’s cousin is getting her own version of this classic crossover.
Per Marvel, the new event will bring Jennifer Walters’ current journey its conclusion, setting the hero on a new path in time for Avengers #50. Marvel describes it as “an homage to the hit 2007 crossover event by Greg Pak. They do, however, say that it “will stand on its own as a new pulse-pounding saga in the Hulk mythos.” It was also revealed that She-Hulk will be facing off against heroes such as Red Guardian and the Winter Guard.
The logline for World War She-Hulk reads as follows.
“After the shocking events of ‘Enter the Phoenix,’ the Earth has become more fractured and volatile than ever, especially for the Avengers. Once She-Hulk is declared a global menace, Russia’s mightiest heroes, the Winter Guard, are tasked with bringing Jen to justice and face a fate no Hulk could hope to endure.”
Jason Aaron is writing the story, with art from d Javier Garrón. We’ve included a preview of the issue’s cover for you to check out below.
“When the Russian Winter Guard invade Avengers Mountain to arrest She-Hulk, it sets off a global espionage adventure that takes us from the notorious assassin training academy of the Red Room to an undersea kingdom on the verge of violent revolution,” says writer Jason Aaron. “Along the way, traitors will fall, regimes will crumble and the dark evolution of Jennifer Walters will reach its bloody red crescendo, all as we build toward the epic events of AVENGERS #50.”
World War Hulk was published between May and November of 2007. It was spun directly out of the fan-favorite Planet Hulk, a storyline that ultimately inspired part of Thor: Ragnarok. In it, Hulk sought revenge on Earth’s Mightiest Heroes for sending him to space. It proved to be quite successful and beloved in its own right.
Marvel has been revisiting classic storylines in new ways as of late. They also have a revamp of Heroes Reborn on the way. Plus, Miles Morales will be getting his very own Clone Saga.
World War She-Hulk kicks off July 7 in Avengers #46.
