The time has arrived, Sonic fans. Paramount Pictures has released the first trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 2. The studio decided to drop the footage as part of The Game Awards this year, and it did not disappoint. Not only do we get more of Sonic, but two more classic characters from the games have arrived as well. Sonic’s pal Tails, as well as Knuckles, are also along for the ride. Check it out.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Trailer
Lots of action and humor going on here, much like the first movie. The biggest reveals have to do with Tails and Knuckles. While Tails was teased in the last movie, Knuckles is the big addition. Especially since Idris Elba is voicing him. Plus, we get to see the return of Jim Carrey as Robotnik.
Here is the synopsis for Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
“The world’s favorite blue hedgehog is back for a next-level adventure in SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 2. After settling in Green Hills, Sonic is eager to prove he has what it takes to be a true hero. His test comes when Dr. Robotnik returns, this time with a new partner, Knuckles, in search for an emerald that has the power to destroy civilizations. Sonic teams up with his own sidekick, Tails, and together they embark on a globe-trotting journey to find the emerald before it falls into the wrong hands.”
Jeff Fowler directs after having helmed the first film. Tim Miller, who directed Deadpool, is on board as a producer. The cast includes James Marsden, Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic, Tika Sumpter, Natasha Rothwell, Adam Pally, and Jim Carrey. Newcomers include Shemar Moore, and Colleen O’Shaughnessey as the voice of Tails. Pat Casey, Josh Miller and John Whittington penned the screenplay.

The first movie was a surprisingly big hit. Even though it was released in February 2020 just ahead of the pandemic, it made $319 million worldwide. Considering its reported $85 million budget, that’s a nice return. Paramount wasted no time in getting a sequel going, even under the harsh conditions brought on by the pandemic. It’s truly an impressively quick turnaround.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is set to hit theaters on April 8, 2022.
