The Witcher Season 2 Officially Wraps Filming

The Witcher season 2 has officially wrapped filming. The epic fantasy series has been trying to get its sophomore season in the can for some time now. After several delays brought on by the pandemic, the job is finally done. We are now one step closer to seeing Henry Cavill return as Geralt of Rivia.

Netflix initially announced the news on Twitter. A photo was shared of Cavill holding a clapboard. The caption provided with the photo confirms that filming has indeed finished.

“That’s a wrap on Season 2! The White Wolf awaits you back on The Continent,” the tweet reads.

A bit later, Netflix also shared a behind-the-scenes video commemorating the production. It provides a glimpse at what we can expect from season 2 of the series. It is teased that we will be moving beyond Blood of Elves, the first book in the series that the show is adapted from. So we may well be heading into Time of Contempt territory.

“We’ve shot for 158 days with at least one unit, sometimes two, sometimes three, all while decked out in face shields, face masks and goggles and slathered in hand sanitizer. We shot in 15 locations, with 89 cast members and over 1,200 different crew members all bringing their craft to life,” showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich says in the video.

Here is the synopsis for The Witcher season 2

“Convinced Yennefer’s life was lost at the Battle of Sodden, Geralt of Rivia brings Princess Cirilla to the safest place he knows, his childhood home of Kaer Morhen. While the Continent’s kings, elves, humans and demons strive for supremacy outside its walls, he must protect the girl from something far more dangerous: the mysterious power she possesses inside.”

The Witcher was initially released in December 2019. While critics were divided on the show, it proved to be a tremendous hit for the streaming service. Netflix quickly began turning it into a franchise. A spin-off titled The Witcher: Blood Origin is currently in development. An anime titled Nightmare of the Wolf is also in the works. Neither project has a release date set just yet.

Joining the cast this season are Adjoa Andoh as Nenneke, Cassie Clare as Phillippa Eilhart

Liz Carr as Fenn, Graham McTavish as Dijkstra, Kevin Doyle as Ba’lian, Simon Callow as Codringher and Chris Fulton as Rience.

The Witcher season 2 is expected to arrive sometime in 2021.
