Marvel Comics has announced a brand new series centered on everyone’s friendly neighborhood webslinging superhero. The publisher is set to release a new miniseries, W.E.B. of Spider-Man, from writer Kevin Shinick with art by Roberto Di Salvo. What’s more, the new book will serve as a tie-in to Avengers Campus, the new Marvel land coming to Disney’s California Adventure theme park.
Recently, Disney revealed what Avengers Campus will consist of and one of the areas will heavily focus on Spider-Man, the Worldwide Engineering Brigade. This area will feature an attraction where visitors can test their webslinging skills. To help hype up the new addition to the Disney Parks catalog, they’re giving us this new comic.
Here’s the official synopsis for W.E.B. of Spider-Man.
“Peter Parker. Spider-Man. Scientist. Troublemaker? Thanks to none other than Tony Stark, a new scientific research station for the teenage heroes of the Marvel Universe has just been completed – and Spider-Man just got an invitation to join! Working alongside some of your favorite faces from the Marvel Universe and a whole bunch of awesome new gadgets, and with Iron Man keeping an eye on the them, surely everything’s going to go great for the heroes, right? Right?”
The series will span five issues and is set to debut this summer, just ahead of Avengers Campus’ scheduled grand opening on July 18. As for those who are curious about what to expect from Spider-Man at Californai Adventure, Tom Holland will be voicing the character, reprising his role from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Disney Parks Blog recently shared the following description of W.E.B. as well.
“Our first key location, the Worldwide Engineering Brigade—also known as WEB—is home to the first Disney ride-through attraction to feature a favorite neighborhood hero: Spider-Man. This new family-friendly attraction, WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure, invites guests to put their web-slinging skills to the test. The innovative technology adapted specifically for this attraction includes a seamless blend of 3D and new interface, which allows guests to go on a mission and experience what it’s like to have super powers and sling webs alongside Spider-Man.”
Even though it’s just a miniseries, it’s adding to a growing number of Spidey-centric book in the publisher’s lineup. We still have a couple issues remaing in J.J. Abrams’ Spider-Man comic, as well as the recently announced Non-Stop Spider-Man. Not to mention the ongoing Amazing Spider-Man or Miles Morales: Spider-Man.
W.E.B. of Spider-Man is set to hit stands in June.
