Earlier this week at Comic-Con, Brie Larson was officially confirmed as the actress who will take on the role of Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Whether or not she appears before she gets her first solo movie – which comes in 2019 and will be the twenty-first MCU offering – remains to be seen, but we’re looking forward to it regardless, given that it will be the first female solo offering in the franchise.
Carol Danvers has had a number of names as a hero in the comic books – Ms. Marvel, Binary and Captain Marvel, for instance – and we think there’s a possibility that elements could potentially be taken from all three for her depiction in the MCU, villains included.
That got us thinking; which villain(s) is Larson’s Danvers likely to go up against in that first solo movie outing for the character? This article will take a look at some of the possibilities. Here are ten great potential villains for Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel.
Moonstone

Let’s kick things off with a female supervillain, as they’ve been severely lacking in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to date. Hela is set to be the main antagonist in Thor: Ragnarok, but having a female superhero face off with a female supervillain would be absolutely awesome – cue Moonstone in the Captain Marvel movie.
She is Karla Sofen – a doctor of psychiatry and psychology whose villainous alter-ego has had some epic battles with Carol Danvers. Her powers (superhuman strength, speed, stamina, reflexes, gravity manipulation, flight, photon blasts, intangibility, light generation, minor molecular control, etc.) are derived from a Kree gravity stone, which could bring her into conflict with Danvers, given that her powers are Kree in origin, too.
A fight between the two would be a real visual treat, and Moonstone’s introduction to the MCU could be a hint towards the formation of a Dark Avengers team under Norman Osborn’s leadership in the future of the franchise.
Now let’s move on to the creepiest villain on this list.
