Here’s When Supergirl Will Be Streaming On HBO Max

Milly Alcock as Supergirl

DC fans will soon have the chance to watch Supergirl from the comfort of home. Warner Bros. has revealed that the latest movie in the DC Universe will soon be coming to HBO Max. While the movie has been available on VOD for a bit, HBO Max will open it up to a much larger audience.

Supergirl will begin streaming on HBO Max on Thursday, September 10. Mark your calendars and plan accordingly. The DC Comics adaptation stars Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, aka Superman’s cousin. It was the big cinematic follow-up to last summer’s Superman, which was a sizable hit. Unfortunately, it didn’t go nearly as well for the Girl of Steel’s new live-action cinematic adventure.

The movie seriously underperformed at the box office. Against a budget of around $170 million, it made just $126 million worldwide. It served as a major misfire for Warner Bros. and DC Studios. It’s put even more pressure on next year’s Man of Tomorrow, which also stars Alcock’s Supergirl. Directed by James Gunn, the movie features lots of heroes from the current DCU, led by David Corenswet’s Superman.

Here’s the synopsis for Supergirl.

“When an unexpected and ruthless adversary strikes too close to home, Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, reluctantly joins forces with an unlikely companion on an epic, interstellar journey of vengeance and justice.”

The cast also includes Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll, Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills, David Krumholtz as Zor-El, Emily Beecham as Alura In-Ze and Ferdinand Kingsley as Elias Knoll.

Craig Gillespie (Cruella, Dumb Money) is in the director’s chair. Ana Nogueira, who is also writing DC’s new Wonder Woman movie, penned the screenplay. Gunn and Safran are on board as producers with Nigel Gostelow, Chantal Nong Vo and Lars P. Winther serving as executive producers.

Looking ahead, the next movie in the DCU arrives in October in the form of the R-rated Clayface. A radical change of pace, it’s a full-on body horror movie set in Gotham City, centered on the famed Batman villain. With a much lower budget, there is less financial pressure on it, which could work to its benefit. Meanwhile, Lanterns season 1 is currently airing on HBO Max.

You can also grab Supergirl on 4K, Blu-ray or DVD.
