One of Marvel’s most underrated games from recent years is finally coming to the Nintendo Switch 2. Marvel games has announced Guardians of the Galaxy: Encore Edition. It brings 2021’s Guardians of the Galaxy game from Square Enix to Nintendo’s current console this November. We’ve even got a new trailer to hype up the re-release. Check it out for yourself.
The Encore Edition is exclusive to Switch 2 and includes a new set of outfits for Star-Lord, Drax, Gamora, Rocket and Groot. Dressed in 1980s glam rock threads, we can see the new outfits in the trailer. The game retails for $39.99 and is available for pre-order now. Unlike Marvel’s Avengers, which led to major losses for Square Enix, this game was generally very well received. Bringing it to Nintendo’s newest console will open it up to an entirely new audience.
Here is the synopsis for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy.
“Fire up a wild ride across the cosmos with a fresh take on Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. In this action-adventure game, you are Star-Lord leading the unpredictable Guardians from one explosion of chaos to the next. You got this. Probably.”
The game went on to win Best Narrative at The Game Awards 2021. Despite that, it only did so-so in the sales department. Marvel has been on a bit of an up and down ride with its games in recent years. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was a massive hit. At the same time, EA had to cancel its Black Panther video game. Others, such as 1943: The Rise of Hydra, have been pushed back multiple times.
Next up is the long-awaited Wolverine game, which is exclusive to the PlayStation 5. Unlike the recent Spider-Man games, it doesn’t seem like Sony has any interest in releasing this one for PC. At least not any time soon. That will limit its potential audience, which is a bit of a shame.
As for the future of the Guardians on screen? That’s all sort of up in the air. Vin Diesel has hinted at a possible Groot movie, but that has yet to be confirmed. Chris Pratt is also supposed to return as Star-Lord at some point. When precisely that will happen remains up in the air, though Avengers: Secret Wars seems like a good bet.
