Is Jordan Peele Directing An MCU Movie? Evidence Is Mounting

Jordan Peele / Marvel

The future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is in many ways a mystery. Right now, everything is building towards Avengers: Secret Wars. Phase 6 of the MCU is underway with Avengers: Doomsday coming our way next year. But what lies beyond the Multiverse Saga? That’s the big question. If the rumor mill is to be believed, none other than Jordan Peele could be a part of Marvel’s next big saga.

Industry insider Daniel Richtman recently reported that Marvel Studios wants Peele (Get Out, Us) to direct a movie for them. Things of this nature must always be taken with a grain of salt so that on its own doesn’t mean too much. However, after the initial reports started to circulate, the Twitter account for Monkeypaw Productions, Peele’s own production company, responded to the news.

In the above tweet, we can see a link regarding the rumor, with the Monkeypaw folks sharing a shifty-eye emoji in response. This was about as far from debunking the rumor as it gets. Rather, it stoked the fire. Either the Monkeypaw social media manager is getting a talking to, or they’re in on it. It’s Peele’s company and if he was unhappy with this post, it’d probably be taken down by now. So, let the speculation begin.

Peele is an auteur who writes his own original movies. He likes a lot of creative control. That has worked exceptionally well with Get Out becoming a huge Oscar-winning hit. Us was also a massive hit, with NOPE doing big business on a larger scale. Would Marvel Studios be willing to give more creative control to Peele? That’s the bigger question. Beyond that, we have to wonder what project would suit Peele best. We know the X-Men reboot is currently being written by Michael Lesslie (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes).

However, Thunderbolts director Jake Schreier is currently attached to that one. What about the long-gestating Blade reboot? That was previously due to be helmed by Yann Demange (Lovecraft Country). First announced in 2019 with Mahershala Ali attached to star, it’s been stuck in development hell for years. Peele feels like a guy who could get it out of development hell in a hurry.

What we know for sure is that Peele has been working on a new movie for several years. It was originally set for a December 2026 release but has since been pulled from Universal’s release calendar. On an episode of the Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend podcast, Peele talked a bit about it.

“It’s been an interesting year because the writer’s strike had had me in a state of listening, and that’s where I need to be. I do feel like my next project is clear to me, and I’m psyched that I have another film that, you know, could be my favorite movie if I make it right.”

Next up for the MCU is Spider-Man: Brand New Day in July. That will be followed by Doomsday, in December, with only Secret Wars on deck for 2027. Marvel has several release dates set aside for 2028. Maybe, just maybe, Peele will be tackling one of those 2028 movies.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits theaters on July 31, 2026.
