1990’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Return In 4K

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990) - Arrow Video

The heroes in a half-shell are back – in Ultra HD! The folks at Arrow Video are giving the 1990’s version of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles a long-awaited 4K upgrade. In December, the label is releasing the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Trilogy Limited Edition, which offers up the original live-action trilogy, remastered and packed with special features. Arrow has now released a new 4K trailer to hype up the forthcoming box set. Check it out.

This new trailer shows off the crisp restoration that has been done on director Steve Bannon’s groundbreaking 1990 comic book movie. The box set also includes similar upgrades for The Secret of the Ooze and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III. We’ve also got a glimpse at the box art and packaging for the trilogy, which you can check out below. It’s due to be released on December 16 both in 4K and on Blu-ray. The 4K set is currently listed for $70, while the Blu-ray version goes for $65. Both options come in a standard edition or “Arrow Exclusive” with alternate artwork.

Here is the synopsis for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles trilogy.

“A shell-shocking saga of mutants, martial arts and New York mayhem, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles trilogy brought comic book grit, practical effects wizardry and pizza-fuelled fun to a generation of moviegoers, helping turn four sewer-dwelling brothers into global pop culture icons.

Launching in 1990 with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, director Steve Barron’s gritty, high-energy adaptation of the underground comic became a box office phenomenon, fusing martial arts action, streetwise humor and the groundbreaking animatronics of Jim Henson’s Creature Shop. The 1991 sequel The Secret of the Ooze is an irresistibly fun second slice: a deep-dive into the turtles’ origins where new mutant foes Tokka and Rahzar are thrown in the mix…double the stakes, double the pizza! Rounding out the trilogy, 1993’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III sends the heroes in a half shell back to feudal Japan in a time-travel adventure full of samurai showdowns, ancient legends and comic chaos.”

The release also comes absolutely loaded down with special features. We’ve got a full list of the features included, disc by disc, below. Arrow Video generally doesn’t skimp on the goods in that department. They also recently released 1997’s Spawn on 4K Ultra HD and it was similarly jam-packed. It’s a good time to be both a fan of physical media and 1990s comic book movies, it seems.

As for the franchise in general, Paramount is currently working on a new live-action TMNT movie. That, however, came at the expense of the planned R-rated The Last Ronin adaptation, which has been canceled. Elsewhere, a sequel to 2023’s animated Mutant Mayhem is also in the works, currently due to hit theaters in 2027.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Trilogy Limited Edition arrives on December 16.
