Marvel Studios has revealed a brand new trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps. This movie has been a long time coming, with fans waiting years to see the MCU’s take on Reed Richards and the gang. Now, we have a much better idea of what that’s going to look like. We also finally have our first full look at Julia Garner as the new Silver Surfer. Though it’s a relatively brief look, the trailer does contain footage of Garner in action as the Herald of Galactus. Check it out for yourself.
There is a lot to be said here. For one, Silver Surfer is a gender-swapped take on the character in this movie. The footage is too brief to truly weigh in on Garner’s performance here though. The visual effects may leave something to be desired for now. That said, it’s hard to do worse than Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. So we’ll see. Marvel still has a few months to fine tune the VFX before the movie hits theaters in late July. They’re also currently hiding Galactus from us, for the most part. Though that might be more about maintaining the surprise.
Here is the synopsis for The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
“Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four: First Steps introduces Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm/Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby), Johnny Storm/Human Torch Joseph Quinn) and Ben Grimm/The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) as they face their most daunting challenge yet. Forced to balance their roles as heroes with the strength of their family bond, they must defend Earth from a ravenous space god called Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his enigmatic Herald, Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). And if Galactus’ plan to devour the entire planet and everyone on it weren’t bad enough, it suddenly gets very personal.”
This is just one of two big movies Marvel Studio has coming this summer. Thunderbolts arrives in May to end Phase 5 of the MCU. Aside from this movie, Phase 6 will also include Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. After that, the Multiverse Saga will officially be over and we’ll be moving onto something else entirely. What will that be, exactly? For the time being, that largely remains a mystery.
The cast also includes Paul Walter Hauser, John Malkovich, Natasha Lyonne and Sarah Niles. Matt Shakman (WandaVision) is in the director’s chair. Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige produced the film, with Louis D’Esposito, Grant Curtis and Tim Lewis on board as executive producers.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps hits theaters on July 25.
