Deadpool 3 Officially Wraps Filming

That’s a wrap! Ryan Reynolds has confired that Deadpool 3 has officially finished filming. The long-awaited sequel has been filming off and on for months now. But after several lengthy delays, Marvel’s latest is in the can. Now, it’s up to director Shawn Levy and the team to usher the film through post-production so that it can be ready for theaters this summer.

Reynolds, who reprises his role as Wade Wilson, revealed the news on Twitter. The actor shared a behind-the-scenes photo of Deadpool’s costume. Well, part of it anyhow. This is a movie that will see Hugh Jackman return as Wolverine and there are clearly going to be some big surprises in store. So Reynolds didn’t want to share too much.

“The suit hides the blood. Also sweat… But today, with Deadpool wrapping, it’s mostly tears. A giant and forever thanks to the cast and crew of our film who battled wind, rain, strikes and @RealHughJackman… all under the stalwart leadership of @ShawnLevyDirect. I got to make a movie with my closest pals and that doesn’t happen very often. See ya July 26th…,” Reynolds said in the caption along with his photo.

Deadpool 3 will be the first entry in the series that is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The first two entries were produced by Fox before Disney purchased the studio back in 2019. It’s still a little unclear how, precisely, Deadpool will be folded into the larger MCU as plot details for the film remain under wraps. It is believed that the multiverse will play a big part in the proceedings though. Very few cast members have been confirmed, but the internet has been awash with rumors for months.

The first Deadpool was released back in 2016 and shattered box office records for an R-rated movie at the time. It ended up grossing $782 million worldwide against a relatively small $58 million budget – a fraction of what most superhero movies cost. Deadpool 2, which followed in 2018, made similarly huge money, taking in $786 million worldwide. Before Fox was sold to Disney, the plan had been to do an X-Force spin-off as well as a third solo Deadpool film. Those plans changed once the characters were brought under the Marvel Studios umbrella.

Deadpool 3 is currently set to hit theaters on July 26.
