New Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse Trailer Officially Released

With just a couple of months until the release, Sony has released a new trailer for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. The animated film serves as a follow-up to 2018’s acclaimed Into the Spider-Verse. It may have taken five years, but Miles Morales is finally coming back to the big screen – and he’s bringing lots of friends with him. Well, they’re not all friends, as some of the Spider-people from the multiverse are not exactly on his side. Check it out.

This trailer gives us a lot more to chew on than the original teaser. We see that Miguel O’Hara, aka Spider-Man 2099, heads up a coalition of Spideys from various universes. Miles seems poised to be brought into the group, but things take a turn. We also get a glimpse at the main villain of the film, The Spot. There’s even a direct reference to the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which offers some connective tissue to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Here is the synopsis for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

“Miles Morales returns for the next chapter of the Oscar-winning Spider-Verse saga, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. After reuniting with Gwen Stacy, Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-People charged with protecting its very existence. But when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders and must redefine what it means to be a hero so he can save the people he loves most.”

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was a big hit, taking in $384 million at the box office. It was also met with widespread critical acclaim, going on to win the Oscar for Best Animated Feature. Part of the reason it took Sony so long to get a follow-up in theaters is that the studio decided to make two sequels back-to-back. Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is also set to arrive in March 2024. So the wait won’t be nearly as long, as we’re getting two of these movies in the span of 9 months.

Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers and Justin K. Thompson directed the sequel, working from a script by Phil Lord, Chris Miller and David Callaham. The cast includes Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Jake Johnson, Issa Rae, Daniel Kaluuya, Jason Schwartzman, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Velez, Greta Lee, Rachel Dratch, Jorma Taccone, Shea Whigham and Oscar Isaac.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse hits theaters on June 2.
