Warner Bros. Wants to Shoot Two DC Extended Universe Movies in 2017!

Warner Bros wants to shoot two DC Extended Universe movies in 2017!

Warner Bros. shot two DC Extended Universe movies, Wonder Woman and Justice League, in 2016. Currently, Aquaman is the only film expected to head into production in 2017. At one point, The Batman looked good enough to start filming this year, but we recently learned that it won't happen until 2018.

According to Variety's Justin Kroll, the studio still wants to shoot a second DCEU installment this year. They have five projects – The Flash, Green Lantern Corps, Suicide Squad 2, Gotham City Sirens, and Dark Universe  in mind, and they’d like one of them to kick off production in 2017.

However, the correspondent also insisted that the studio doesn't want to rush into any of the five projects. If a script isn’t ready to go, they’ll be satisfied with just completing Aquaman this year. Check out Kroll's tweets below!

The original release date for the Flash was March 16, 2018, and the movie was expected to move into production in January 2017. The studio even added Kiersey Clemons as Iris West and Billy Crudup as Henry Allen. But the movie suddenly lost director Rick Famuyiwa and has been on hold ever since. The most recent news was that Joby Harold had been brought in to do a page-one rewrite of the script.

Green Lantern Corps is scheduled to hit theaters on July 24, 2020, with David S. Goyer and Justin Rhodes already hired to pen the script. The project doesn't have a director yet, and its cast roster is blank. But if they somehow manage to begin shooting this year, the movie’s likely to arrive before the scheduled release date.

Suicide Squad 2 also lacks a director, but Warner Bros. has met with Mel Gibson, and they’re also considering a few other filmmakers for the job. But they won't hire a director until they’ve nailed down a story. It was recently reported that Adam Cozad is in negotiations to pen the script.

Unlike the DCEU installments we’ve already mentioned, Gotham City Sirens has already found a director. Suicide Squad director David Ayer will direct, and Geneva Robertson-Dworet is working on the screenplay. But they have yet to sign actresses to play Poison Ivy and Catwoman.

Guillermo del Toro worked on Dark Universe, a movie based on DC superhero team Justice League Dark, for a couple of years, but he eventually dropped out. The studio later appointed Doug Liman to take the helm and Michael Gilio to polish del Toro's screenplay.
