With three years and a few months remaining before Green Lantern Corps rolls into theaters, the names of the movie’s two lead superheroes have been revealed!
Deadline reports that the July 24, 2020 release will focus on Hal Jordan and John Stewart. While the former was portrayed by Ryan Reynolds in Martin Campbell's Green Lantern, the latter has not appeared in live-action cinema to date.
The outlet isn’t sure whether Warner Bros. wants Reynolds to return as Jordan in Green Lantern Corps. However, considering the studio's efforts to keep the DC Extended Universe apart from their previous DC movies, and the actor's frustration with playing the part in the 2011 flick, it may be safe to assume that neither party would be interested in reconnecting.
Apart from deciding on the central characters for Green Lantern Corps, the studio has also made up its mind about who will pen the script. Two writers, David S. Goyer and Justin Rhodes, have been tapped.
Goyer is known for collaborating with Christopher Nolan on The Dark Knight trilogy. He also served as a writer for the first two DCEU installments - Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Rhodes is a newcomer when it comes to working on superhero movies. His screenwriting work includes the 2008 action flick Contract Killers and the 2012 comedy Grassroots. He has also penned the script for Guillermo del Toro's upcoming remake of Fantastic Voyage.
Like this year's Justice League, and all of the DCEU installments that will follow, Green Lantern Corps will have DC Films co-heads Geoff Johns and Jon Berg serving as executive producers. The movie’s plot, which is being described as "Lethal Weapon in space", was conceived by Goyer and Johns and is based on a comic book origin story.
