Samuel L. Jackson has been, in more than one way, the binding element of the Marvel Cinematic Universe - the (former) leader of S.H.I.E.L.D. has popped in movies ever since the MCU has been established and, frankly, we are uncertain as to how this Universe will be without him.
And that is because, at one point or another, Samuel L. Jackson will leave this very lucrative studio (although, as he said in a recent interview with MTV, he wouldn't want to leave even after his contract expires - within two movies).
Samuel L. Jackson - Marvel better than DC
During this same interview, Samuel L. Jackson also talked about the competition coming from DC and Warner Bros. And the ace in the hole for Marvel is that it managed to make its characters accessible for the larger audiences.
And we cannot debate on that - after all, say 10 years ago, would you have bet that a movie with talking trees and talking raccoons will be a huge blockbuster?
But these are just the exotic characters - and Marvel has superheroes that are well known even if they are dark ones. Such is the case of the Winter Soldier, which has proved to be a much more grounded film, with a serious vibe to it.
Is it so?
While we can agree with Samuel L. Jackson as far as the success of Marvel movies is concerned, we do know that DC has just started shaping its Movie Universe, with just one film already released (Man of Steel). Furthermore, the actor says that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice isn't getting the buzz a Marvel film would (after being said that Marvel has managed to attract all kinds of audiences).
And this isn't necessarily true - in fact, it is far from the truth. We know almost nothing about DC and Warner Bros' next project and we are still very excited at the prospect of seeing at least a 15 second teaser trailer.
Much like it has happened with Age of Ultron. Or much like it has happened with the Infinity War teaser - which was basically footage we have already seen from the previous Marvel films, with Thanos finally holding his Infinity Gauntlet in the last seconds of the teaser.
The end of Nick Fury
As said, Samuel L. Jackson has only two more movies to make, according to his multiple pictures deal. And while he would like to play Nick Fury for as long as possible, we can bet that this won't happen. The MCU is building towards the Infinity Wars: Civil War and Ragnarok will most likely see some characters killed in order to make way for new superheroes.
And while Nick Fury has been around ever since the first Iron Man film and while he has already been resurrected (sort of) once during Captain America: Winter Soldier, we believe that it is the right time for introducing a new leader.
And given the fact that Iron Man 4 will most likely not happen with the older cast, maybe that new leader will be (after the events of Civil War) Tony Stark. Who knows? We can bet that Robert Downey Jr. does.
