In a darker corner of 2017’s Marvel Cinematic Universe, Iron Fist and The Defenders failed to impress. However, Netflix and Marvel had another ace in the hole: The Punisher, a series we had been waiting for since Jon Bernthal’s debut as Frank Castle in the second season of Daredevil.
The Punisher didn't receive the same kind of love from the critics as its fellow Marvel/Netflix TV series. The main reason for this was the show’s pacing, which indicated that there wasn't enough material for the 13-episode first season. But the fans feel that it’s among the best of the Marvel series.
After its November 17 debut, there was no news about the possibility of a second season. Part of the reason was that numerous rumors surrounded the Disney/Netflix deal, and that a new deal between Disney and 21st Century Fox is right around the corner. In the midst of all of this, it’s not surprising that The Punisher fell off the grid.
But today brought the news that a second season of The Punisher is on the way! After the way the first season ended, it makes sense that the past will pull Frank Castle back into a war.
Check out today’s announcements from the Twitter accounts of both The Punisher and Jon Bernthal:

Of course, Season 2 is coming reveals nothing about a possible release date. But, if other Marvel/Netflix series are any indication, we probably aren’t going to see the violent anti-hero on the small screen any sooner than 2019.
But this is great news, especially after such an excellent debut season!
