If there is a medium, outside of the comic books, where a studio can do the Punisher justice, then that medium is the TV. And if there is one provider which handles Marvel properties very well, then that provider is Netflix. Marvel has already struck gold with Daredevil and Jessica Jones, the later gathering even more viewers than the former, despite being a lesser known superheroine. What will happen when the Punisher hits the TV screens?
But we are getting ahead of ourselves, since nothing official was announced. But TV Line (which is, basically, the small brother of Deadline) reports that the powers that be are so delighted of Jon Bernthal's performance as Frank Castle in Daredevil season 2 that they want to make a spin-off just about him.
Executive producer Doug Petrie has already said that Punisher is the character who will make the viewers second guess themselves. He is not a superhero, but the definition of vigilantism itself - why wait for a criminal to receive justice (if at all), when you can take it all upon yourself?
In this way, the Punisher will be the 4th Marvel character to have his own solo series on Netflix, after Daredevil and Jessica Jones. And seeing that Elektra will also be featured in the second season of the Man without Fear, we do wonder if she will be also added to the roster of the Defenders. Probably not, but still"¦
Little is known about this new version of the vigilante. Other than a few leaked pics from the set, a couple of official images, and one awesome line ("Beg"), he is still a mystery. But Bernthal is an awesome actor, when he has something to play with - apparently, he has found something.
We're looking forward to seeing him on the 18th of March, when Daredevil season 2 will be released.
