Shazam is one of the newest additions to Justice League and a movie teased by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson ever since 2007 - even so, when DC and Warner Bros announced Shazam for 2019 the fans were still a bit surprised. And the surprise increased when DC and Warner Bros didn't mention that this character will be a part of the DC Cinematic Universe.
In a way, this meant for some of us that Shazam will be a one-time only film, but which had the potential of becoming a franchise - the 2019 movie was just meant to be a try-out.
However, it isn't so - we may have a chance, after all, to see Billy Batson trading a few blows with Superman.
Shazam - part of the DCCU
Just a couple of days ago, on a blog post, DC announced that 10 feature films are scheduled for release and all of them are included in a shared universe. And one of these films is Shazam.
Keeping in mind what we said about The Rock, it can be said that Shazam was in development for 7 years already, making it 11 years until 2019 when it will be released. Furthermore, it was already said that this film will have a different tone than all the other movies.
But what does that mean?
A door towards something else
It can be said that Shazam will play for DCCU the same role Doctor Strange will have in the MCU continuity - both of these movies will introduce the magic in their respective shared universes.
Furthermore, we know that the tone of the DC movies is a pretty bleak one - and we also know that Shazam is basically a teenager in the body of a full grown man. So it can be expected that Shazam will not introduce the magical element in the DCCU, but that it will also have a lighter tone.
