EP Talks The Flash Season 3 Villains Savitar and Dr. Alchemy!

EP Todd Helbing talks about the two main antagonists of The Flash Season 3 - Savitar and Dr. Alchemy!

Unlike the first two seasons, The Flash Season 3 won't have just one big baddie but two - Dr. Alchemy and Savitar. While the former is a not dark speedster like Reverse-Flash and Zoom, the latter is. So, why do we need a speedster to battle against Grant Gustin's Barry Allen in every season? Isn't it getting repetitive?

During a recent interview with IGN, the show's executive producer Todd Helbing explains why they are introducing another villainous speedster in the upcoming season. According to him, it gets difficult for them to show how the Scarlet Speedster can't defeat some meta-humans who aren't speedsters. He adds:

If you have another speedster, especially someone like Zoom, or Reverse Flash, you need somebody on an equal level to provide that threat that a lot of these other metas can’t do.

However, the EP wants us to rest assured that The Flash Season 3's dark speedster is very different from Reverse-Flash or Zoom. He explains:

Savitar is more of a psychological villain in a weird way. I think the Hindu word for Savitar means God of Speed; he’s all about speed. Everything about this guy is different. I can’t go into super detail, but he’s not like Zoom or Reverse Flash.

During the interview, Helbing also talks about the other main antagonist in The Flash Season 3. He says that Dr. Alchemy may not be a speedster, but his plans are "not much different" from Savitar's.

The EP doesn't offer any concrete details about the supervillain, but does explain what they will be bringing in with Dr. Alchemy in the CW series this season. According to Helbing:

Last year we got pretty dark with Zoom, and I think we want to go back to more of a Season 1 lightness to it. We still need those darker moments, and I think when you find out what Alchemy is doing, it sort of provides that “holy s**t” moment that we really love to have on our show.

While Matt Letscher's Eobard Thawne, aka Reverse-Flash, will appear in the upcoming season of Legends of Tomorrow, Helbing believes that they can have the supervillain on their show "anytime".

It has been already confirmed that The Flash Season 3 will team up with Supergirl Season 2 for a two-part musical episode. The EP says that he "would love to" have a dance sequence in their half.
