No. 5 – A Quote From The Dark Knight
These words were said by Christian Bale’s Batman to Gary Oldman’s Commissioner James Gordon in the second installment of Nolan’s Batman trilogy – The Dark Knight. The words are spoken out at the ending scene of the movie.
This quote isn’t actually a denial of Batman to what the truth is, but his willingness to go beyond it. You would say that the truth is always the best option to pick, but it isn’t actually always the case. Sometimes telling the truth can be so destructive that it damages the faith of a person or a group of people. Sometimes you need to conceal the truth so that people can breathe comfortably. In this movie, it was Batman who sacrificed his image under the cover of lies so that people of Gotham do not get to know the true face of their hero Harvey Dent, which if they knew would have shattered their faith.
