After seeing the first full Justice League trailer, we can be certain that Zack Snyder hasn't lost his touch with visuals. The trailer looks stunning. And it appears that the director listened to what fans said about Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, because the comedy works in this new clip. It remains to be seen whether or not he also improved his storytelling abilities.
After repeated viewings, it can also be said that the Justice League trailer revealed a number of things about the movie. In a blink-and-you'll-miss-it scene, it even revealed Steppenwolf, the main antagonist of the flick and Darkseid's most trusted general.
So let's start big!
10. Parademons and Steppenwolf
Steppenwolf and his army of Parademons are the villains. And, of course, we saw the minions in Bruce Wayne's dream/vision from the future in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. However, the trailer provided a much better look.
It’s clear that the metallic shell contains beings made of flesh. It’s possible that they’re people who’ve been enslaved by Darkseid. We can add that their design is terrifying.
We don't really get to see Steppenwolf in the trailer. However, there is a shot in which Aquaman is struck with a battle axe that’s as big as he is. Since a battle axe is Steppenwolf's weapon of choice, we assume that he’s wielding it in this scene.
It’s even more interesting that the scene takes place under water. Does Steppenwolf’s assault on Atlantis force Aquaman to join the Justice League? Maybe"¦
9. Wonder Woman's powers
After the trailer was released, Zack Snyder said that Wonder Woman's backstory would be explored in her solo movie. However, it’s difficult to believe that the character won't be developed further in the Justice League flick.
We already know from the Wonder Woman trailers that she’s Zeus’ daughter. And we also know that she’ll realize her true potential during her WWII adventures. This self-discovery will continue in the Justice League movie. And we can suspect that it has something to do with her ancestry.
This is also a blink-and-you'll-miss-it scene from the trailer, but it may be the most revealing one. Inside the Apokoliptan structure, when she takes the lead and Aquaman follows, she smashes one of her vambraces onto the shield. But something else happens, aside from what we’ve already seen in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and the Wonder Woman trailers: An bolt of electricity arcs from her wrist to the shield.
This would make her a true daughter of Zeus. And, if she can indeed summon divine lighting, we wonder…What else can she do?
8. Silas Stone
One of the trailer’s first scenes reveals that Silas Stone (Joe Morton, who also played Miles Dyson, the mastermind behind Skynet in Terminator 2: Judgment Day) has a much bigger role than we first thought. We do see him targeted by a Parademon.
One of the earliest Justice League rumors had it that the Parademons have been sent to kidnap scientists from all over the world (no reason is given, however). If Silas Stone has indeed been kidnapped, as the trailer implies, his son Vic Stone/Cyborg will have even more incentive to go against Steppenwolf and his armies.
And this could be it, especially since Zack Snyder said that Cyborg's arc in Justice League can be considered the heart of the entire movie. Does that also mean that Silas will meet his end? The possibility is not excluded, given Zack Snyder's way of adapting comic books (remember Jimmy Olsen).
7. Possible Zoom reveal
One other interesting and major reveal concerns Flash. Besides finally learning more about how his powers work (Snyder has found another way to bring super-speed to life), we get to see him interacting with his father. And, based on what Barry Allen is wearing, we can assume that this scene takes place before he meets Bruce Wayne.
It’s interesting because his father, Henry Allen (Billy Crudup) is in prison, we assume for killing his wife. However, in the comics, he wasn't the real killer; it was Eobard Thawne (this story with Zoom has also been adapted on CW's The Flash).
Is it possible that Zoom will make an appearance in the DCEU? Sure, it’s possible. The fact that his son is visiting him in prison is a hint. As we see it, Barry must know otherwise, and must at least suspect that someone else killed his mother.
And this Zoom storyline should be adapted, since it would open up the possibility of rebooting the entire DCEU via a Flashpoint adaptation. We know it’s too early to talk about that, but it should be taken into account.
And since we are talking about Flash"¦
6. It's good to have friends
When the Justice League teaser dropped at last year’s Comic Con, it was weird to hear Barry Allen say that he was in need of friends. However, this could make sense, especially if the information in the previous entry turns out to be true.
Leaving aside the extent of his power (his use of the Speed Force can be best described as violent), he is still the kid who seems to be the most fragile of all of the superheroes. In this shot from the trailer, the camera moves from one superhero to another, and he’s the only one who looks genuinely happy to be there.
So what if the Parademons and Steppenwolf have arrived? He’s among friends. And he’s sitting beside Wonder Woman, and this can only bring him joy, as it would the Wally West version of the character from the comics.
Are we reading too much into it?
5. Apokolips tower
Here’s another important reveal from the Justice League trailer: Steppenwolf is bringing more than just parademons to Earth. He’s also bringing machines and structures. And, unless we’re all mistaken, one of these structures is a tower that the Justice League (minus Superman) wants to infiltrate.
We can see similarities between the structure in which Wonder Woman says Shall we? and Kryptonian architecture in Man of Steel. Is this a hint from Zack Snyder and the creative team, or just a coincidence?
The aforementioned scene features Wonder Woman, Aquaman (who seems to be surprised to see Diana), and Cyborg. But where is Flash? We don't know. However, we can all assume that the trio is there to distract Steppenwolf's forces while Batman is somewhere else, putting the bigger/real plan in motion. What is that plan?
Well"¦
4. Where is Superman?
Superman's location is one of the biggest remaining mysteries left after the trailer’s release. Is he still "dead"? Is he recovering somewhere? Or is he actually the final piece of the puzzle, the reason why Batman isn’t with the three other superheroes present at the Apokolips Tower?
A while ago, Zack Snyder teased that Darkseid would figure in the Man of Steel’s resurrection, so we can assume that it’s happened and that Darkseid (through Steppenwolf and his machines) now controls Superman.
We can further assume that Batman is trying to rescue him.
Does that sound familiar? Well, it should.
3. The other Mother Box
The scene in the trailer with Amber Heard's Mera was a surprise to everyone. Zack Snyder had already released a promotional picture of her in her armor, but this was an underwater action scene. Unless we’re mistaken, the setting is the same one in which we saw Aquaman in another Zack Snyder reveal.
This is also our first glimpse of Atlantis. What can we say, other than that the shot is amazing?
This shot is also important because it reveals the presence of another Mother Box. As we’ve learned, this is one of the three Earth Mother Boxes, but only the second to appear in the trailer (Silas has possession of the other, which is then carried by Cyborg).
This is the Mother Box entrusted to the Atlanteans after Darkseid's first failed invasion.
Will we see the Amazons' Mother Box in Justice League? Or will we see it much sooner in Wonder Woman?
2. Fight for the future
Speaking of the Amazons, we know that they – along with the Atlanteans and the Men – were part of the force that repelled Darkseid the first time. We learned after the set visit that Zack Snyder shot this invasion, and it will be presented in flashbacks (he does love flashbacks).
There’s a shot in the trailer that shows an Amazon charging forward and jumping from her horse toward an unknown enemy. The shot also reveals the machinery that was brought from Apokolips. At this point, we wonder how in the world Earth survived the first invasion against such terrible forces? The Amazons, the Atlanteans, and the Men certainly received some help"¦
1. For the thrills
Lastly, we must mention Jason Momoa's Aquaman, who’s featured in a couple of battles in the trailer, including against Steppenwolf. But he doesn't look like any kind of king. He really looks like a complete barbarian next to Hippolyta.
However, the final shot of him riding in the Batmobile indicates that he seeks his thrills in battle. He tells Batman that Parademons are approaching and jumps toward his enemies with a war cry.
Flash is thrilled to make new friends; Batman is the brains of the operation; Wonder Woman is basically the leader on the field; Cyborg is out to avenge (or at least save) his father; and Aquaman is out for revenge, but he’s also in it for the kicks.
We hope to see Zoom in the future, as well as Aquaman clashing with Wonder Woman.
