10 Best Wonder Woman Villains

Look, I could write list after list about great Batman Villains. Or great Flash villains. Or great Superman villains. But I very rarely see lists of other characters’ foes. And especially when one of those undervalued rogues galleries belongs to one of DC's big three. The amazing Amazon has her own crew of great villains, so why don't we talk about them for a change? Because a lot of them are pretty friggin' great. Like, SUPER friggin' great. So let's finally give them their due. And show why each is a match for one of DC's greatest superheroes.

10. Giganta

Meet Dr. Doris Zeul, everybody! Man, Wonder Woman sure does fight a lot of doctors, doesn't she?

Anyhoozles, Dr. Zeul was suffering from a rare disease, so she kidnapped Wonder Woman and tried to transfer her mind into WW's body. She failed, and wound up stuck in the body of"¦an ape. Named Giganta. She later kidnapped a circus strongwoman with size changing powers and put her mind into yet another body.

Now able to grow to giant size, she menaced Wonder Woman even harder. She also had a brief relationship with Ryan Choi, the third Atom, so good for her. She followed what will soon be a familiar path, from Injustice League to being shot into space during Salvation Run, to joining Libra's version of the Secret Society of Supervillains during Final Crisis. But for most of us, the introduction to the sizable supervillainess was her role in the Legion of Doom in the Superfriends cartoon.

A legend of great size and even greater stature.

9. Angle Man

Anglo Bend was destined to be a supervillain. Dear DC Universe parents: STOP GIVING YOUR CHILDREN WEIRD NAMES. IT WILL ONLY LEAD TO THEM PUTTING ON RIDICULOUS COSTUMES AND ROBBING BANKS. God, Anglo Bend and Roy G. Bivolo need to form a support group, for God’s sake.

So Anglo decided to do that aforementioned bank robbing thing, and did so using a reality warping tool called the Angler. This is a real thing. Anglo fought Wonder Girl/Troia/Darkstar/Whatever the hell she's calling herself now Donna Troy, and developed a crush on her.

He fought Young Justice a couple of times before narrowing his focus to be more serious. Moving to Gotham, he matched wits with Catwoman, who beat him down repeatedly, and eventually got him mind-wiped by Zatanna. He last popped up as part of a team trying to bring down Wonder Woman before he once again got knocked the hell out.

Oh, and New 52 Angle Man's dad is Vandal Savage. So that's neato.

8. Red Panzer

All right, all right, alt-right, let's talk about Nazis. Red Panzer! All of them. First things first, all of them are Nazis. And, as Nazis, all of them are obviously villainous jerk scumbags.

The first Red Panzer was a Nazi who invented time travel, which is a TERRIFYING thought. He tried to use it to stop the allied invasion of Normandy from being a success, but screwed up and traveled, not just to the future, but also into another earth. Red Panzer 2"¦existed. Not…uh, not much else is known about him. He was also a Nazi. But that can be assumed.

Red Panzer 3 was the son of the previous Panzer, but he was driven insane when he discovered he was one quarter African American on his mother's side. He fought Donna Troy and the Titans, but died in combat, remaining a hate filled neo-Nazi, even in death. Red Panzer 4 was given the identity by Vandal Savage after 3 was killed.

There ya go, Nazis four ways. All got their butts thoroughly kicked by Wonder Woman and allies.

7. Baron Blitzkrieg

Well, he's a Nazi.

The Baron began as a ruthless officer of the German army during World War II. But some nameless hero of a concentration camp prisoner hit him in the face with a bottle, blinding and disfiguring him. He was given back his sight, but remained horrific looking, so he got himself a sweet helmet to hide his visage. As a consolation prize, the Nazi scientists gave him super powers. Blitzkreig fought Wonder Woman and the All-Star Squadron numerous times.

He eventually founded the super villainous organization known as Shadowspire, which sounds like a really cool Dungeons and Dragons module. Working with fellow supervillain Vandal Savage and his supervillain organization Symbolix, the Baron helped to create the superhero known as Damage, who would later go on to face and defeat him time and time again. He joined Lex Luthor's Secret Society of Supervillains and wound up getting nearly annihilated by shockwaves from the Liberty Bell while fighting"¦well"¦Liberty Belle.

He survived though, and lived just long enough to be IMMEDIATELY murdered by Superboy-Prime.

6. Maxwell Lord

God, what a jerk. What an absolute, irredeemable, villainous jerk. This a**hole took Ted Kord from us, and I am STILL MAD ABOUT THAT.

Maxwell Lord was a successful businessman with a sociopathic streak. After watching Lex Luthor use supervillains for business gains, Lord planned to do the same, but with superheroes. As such, he brought together the Justice League International. He served as the annoyed father figure of the JLI. Unfortunately, Max fell under the sway of the evil computer Kilg%re, and tried to take over the world. The League broke him free and Max resumed his normal business.

After the detonation of the Gene Bomb at the climax of Invasion, Max gained the power to control minds, although it caused him physical pain and gave him nosebleeds. After Mongul and Cyborg Superman's destruction of Coast City, Lord lost his mother and was driven to deeply hate all super-powered beings.

He began taking action using Checkmate and the OMAC Project to eliminate all heroes. During this, he murdered Ted Kord, aka the Blue Beetle, and took control of Superman. In order to save the world, Wonder Woman broke Lord's neck, killing him once and for all. That was for Kord, you jerk.

5. Circe

The daughter of two Titans (the mythology kind, not the Teen kind), Circe had a real thing for turning people into animals and mind controlling them.

One of her first moves was to initiate a war between the gods of several pantheons, which, as opening gambits go, is pretty hardcore. Circe eventually traded her soul to the demon Neron for more power during the events of Underworld Unleashed. After that, she found a spot on Lex Luthor's Injustice Gang during his attack on the Justice League of America in the Rock of Ages storyline.

During this time, she apparently tried to seduce Luthor, who shot her down cold. Harsh. She eventually used her expanded powers to boost up many other Wonder Woman foes, stealing Diana's own powers for herself. Circe is one of the best wonder Woman villains.

She's cold and conniving and vicious and calculating, and makes for the perfect antagonist to Wonder Woman's all-loving nature.

4. Doctor Psycho

Before we really talk at all about the good doctor here, we need to establish that in his original appearance, he was working for someone called the Duke of Deception. That is a rad name. But better than that is where Doctor Psycho came from.

Follow through this with me: One day, Ares was pissy. He was pissy because women were gaining more power in the working world, and if women were in charge, it would be harder for Ares to plunge the world into an infinite war. So he went to the Duke of Deception for help discrediting women worldwide. The Duke, in turn, commissioned Doctor Psycho to get women booted from the war effort. That, folks, is what's called delegating.

Doctor Psycho accomplished this by using his powers to create an ectoplasmic creation he claimed was the spirit of George Washington. He then had the fake ghost claim that women were an obstacle to the war effort. That is insane. I…I could not love it more!

Psycho eventually wound up as a major player in Lex Luthor's Secret Society of Supervillains, where he fought Manhunter and the Secret Six.

3. Cheetah

Let's talk about rich archeologist Barbara Ann Minerva. On an expedition, she gained the power/curse of the Cheetah and went off to go be"¦I guess a better archeologist? Who is also a cheetah-lady?

But when Wonder Woman came along, she caught Barbara's attention for one reason and one reason only: The Lasso of Truth. She attempts to steal it from Diana, which leaves Diana shocked and appalled. After failing again to take the lasso in her cheetah form, Barbara decided to destroy the Amazon once and for all.

She fought Diana a number of times, losing and regaining her powers more than once along the way. She also had a hand in forming one of the more recent versions of the Injustice League, got shot into space with the rest of the residents of Salvation Run, and fought back against Darkseid's invasion of earth during Final Crisis.

Full life, that one.

2. Ares

Woooooo! Ares!!!!!

Holy hell (pun intended), is that a badass costume. But I mean, what would you expect from the God of War? Ares was one of the many sons of Zeus, and he was just mad at things all the time. He liked to stir the pot until things boiled over. Not liking this, Aphrodite the Goddess of Love decided that her band of Amazons would oppose Ares's wartorn ways at every turn. As a result, Ares decided to destroy the Amazonian civilization.

(Stage whisper) Ares had problems with women (End stage whisper).

He reeaaaaally hated Wonder Woman, too. He also, at one point, went to the future to grab Wonder Woman's dead body and then used it to make himself a wife/living weapon known as Genocide.

There is a line, and that is crossing it. Like, people ask all the time, "Where is the line?" Here. Here is the line. This thing, right here? This is the line.

1. Doctor Cyber

Right around the time that Wonder Woman gave up her super powers, Doctor Cyber decided it was time to come out of the woodwork. Before her debut as a full tilt supervillain, Cyber worked running a major crime syndicate.

Her first plot involved sending toys rigged with explosives to the children of congressmen. HOLY S**T, WHAT. That's terrifying. Like, that's SO EVIL. SOOOOOOOOO EVIL. Oh wait, apparently she did this as a distraction to keep people from stopping her"¦jewel"¦heist. Um. Look, I'm not gonna be a backseat supervillain here, but maybe your "distraction" shouldn't be an INFINITELY WORSE CRIME than the thing you're distracting from?!!!

Her second plan was to blackmail a city using various earthquake generating devices. She cheated death three times in a row, surviving being blown up, getting impaled, and falling off a ski lift.

This was the end of her supervillain career EXCEPT OH NO, WAIT, IT WASN'T because she infiltrated the Pentagon and tried to start a NUCLEAR WAR!!!!!!!!!! Doctor Cyber isn't just the best Wonder Woman villain, she might now be one of my favorite DC villains ever. A badass, through and through.

Well, that's it for this time. I hope you learned something, because I sure did! Also, I recently launched a kickstarter for a comedic web series, so if you find these things I write funny, maybe consider tossing us a few bucks HERE. Tune in next time, maybe I’ll do one of these on Green Lantern villains; that’d be fun.
