We had our first brief glimpse of the Quantum Realm in the first Ant-Man movie, and the impact the new dimension’s impact would have on the future of the MCU was immediately obvious. Ant-Man and the Wasp further explored its various layers, and it’s sure to play an important role in Captain Marvel.
Read on for more, but be warned that spoilers for Ant-Man and the Wasp are on the way!
According to Kevin Feige (via Screen Rant), the Void was introduced in Ant-Man. It may have been the place Hank Pym said was beyond time and space (as he understood the concepts). Feige added that in the sequel, the team saved the original Wasp from the Wastelands beyond this Void. And since the original Wasp ages, some time apparently passes while she’s there. As time and space are irrelevant in the Quantum Realm, the upcoming Avengers flick can make use of this detail.
On-set photos revealed that time-travel will play an important role in the movie. But Doctor Strange and the Time Stone won’t be around. How can the superheroes travel in time?
According to the original Wasp, time vortices exist within the Quantum Realm. Ant-Man is lost in this dimension, and has the opportunity to take his time to explore the vortices. This would give him a unique opportunity to learn to travel into the past.
Or even into the future!
So, Ant-Man and the Wasp gives us a character who, like Doctor Strange, is capable of traveling through time.
Furthermore, the time vortices could also play a role in the upcoming Captain Marvel flick. We already mentioned that the original Wasp aged during her time in the Quantum Realm, but Brie Larson's character doesn't age between the events of her solo movie and Avengers 4.
