Frank Grillo Teases Crossbones’ MCU Return

When Crossbones first appeared as a HYDRA agent in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, actor Frank Grillo predicted that his role would would certainly expand in future films. But that statement proved to be less than accurate, because Crossbones was killed off early in the Civil War.

That didn’t keep the actor from teasing Crossbones’ return. He said in 2017 that he had some Crossbones news that no one else was aware of, and he’s still dropping hints now.

Crossbones literally exploded during the Civil War, but Grillo’s latest Instagram post appears to hint that Crossbones might actually return in 2019’s in Avengers 4 (rumored title: Avengers: End Game):

The pic really doesn’t reveal much, but there are interesting hints to be found in the hashtags. Grillo named the movies he appeared in as Crossbones, including both The Winter Soldier and Civil War. But the Avengers hashtag is the most telling, especially since the character has never appeared in an Avengers flick.

If you count the characters in this particular hashtag, there are enough to spell Avengers: End Game! So, Grillo could certainly be hinting that Crossbones could make a comeback in that movie!

Of course, anything is possible, and a Crossbones resurrection is no exception. It’s common knowledge that Avengers 4 will include some time travel scenes, and that would leave a door open for Crossbones to slip in.

On the other hand, Grillo could be just kidding around with fans, given all of the Avengers 4 theories floating around online. We should keep in mind that the actor has said that there’s no future in the MCU for any character but Iron Man or Captain America.

What are your thoughts on a possible Crossbones resurrection in Avengers 4?
