UPDATE – A bunch of new photos from Suicide Squad have been released featuring The Joker, Harley Quinn, Monster T, Katana, and more! You can check these photos out at the bottom of this post!

With less than a month remaining before it hits the theaters, Suicide Squad is once again on the covers of Entertainment Weekly. The magazine's website has released four awesome new covers featuring the movie's cast members for their upcoming issue. They’ve also revealed some major plot details of the David Ayer flick.

After Suicide Squad kicked off its filming, we came across a huge number of leaked photos and videos from its set. Then we got to watch three different trailers for the upcoming August 5 release. But somehow the movie has managed to guard most of its biggest secrets.

Who is the main antagonist in Suicide Squad? Does its plot precede or follow the events of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice? Why does Amanda Waller need to recruit the worst of the worst to do some good in the first place?

Well, we have answers to some of the questions now! According to the magazine's website, the movie takes place in "a post-Superman world", following the events of the March 25 release. The government is concerned about how to respond to the next alien invasion. That is when Viola Davis' character convinces them to recruit the band of supervillains.

According to the report, Waller's "first target" is Cara Delevingne's possessed archaeologist June Moone, aka Enchantress. When Midway City is threatened by "a powerful, mystical enemy", the Task Force X program is given the green light.

With Rick Flag brought in as their leader, the whole squad of Belle Reve prisoners is activated. And, as previously confirmed, Karen Fukuhara's Katana joins to serve as Flag's samurai, and she is not one of the criminals.

An interesting revelation: Explosive devices manufactured by Wayne Enterprises are inserted into each supervillain's neck. That makes it easier for Joel Kinnaman's character to strictly enforce the "obey orders or die" rule.

The report also makes it clear that The Joker is NOT a member of the Suicide Squad. He, along with his "laser-like plan to reunite with his true love", Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn, comes in as more than just a bump in the road to the squad. That also means that Jared Leto's character is not just a part of flashback sequences in the movie.

The report also features David Ayer's words about his movie surprisingly gathering so much attention. According to the director:

Two years ago ­Suicide Squad was a tertiary [DC property]. No one knew anything about it. It was a cool little playground, and I was going to go make my movie. Now it's like the hype bus. All of the attention has swung onto it, and it has to carry a lot more weight than it was ever intended to.
