It was just yesterday when the review embargo on Suicide Squad was lifted, but a lot of things have happened since then. Most of the critics brutally slammed the movie, just as they did the first two DC Extended Universe installments; director David Ayer reacted to the reviews; and fans launched a petition to shut down Rotten Tomatoes! The last time I dropped by, the petition had already gained 15,000 supporters! We also came across a report revealing some new stories about the movie's production.
Now, we have reactions of some Suicide Squad cast members to the negative reviews. While speaking to Digital Spy at the movie's London premiere, Jay Hernandez (El Diablo) says:
Yeah I am bothered about it, I think it sucks, obviously we worked hard and tried to give the fans what they wanted. It’s weird that some of the criticism I heard was that it was “too much like a comic book”, in terms of you have these characters being objectified like Harley Quinn, there are just certain elements that are just part of being a comic book.
The actor adds that while portraying comic book characters in a movie, if they don't "stay true" to it, then "the fans of the comics are going to be offended". But the way he concludes is definitely going to make the critics feel offended! He says:
I think we did it. So, I think the critics can kiss my ass.
Don't expect critical acclaim in any of your future movies, Jay!

Joel Kinnaman, who plays Rick Flag in Suicide Squad, admits that they would have loved to have been admired by the critics, but they are looking forward to how the fans react to the movie. He says:
You know, of course you want critical acclaim, of course, but what matters is what the fans think.
He claims that they are proud of Suicide Squad, they loved making it, and all the cast members have become really close friends. So, the movie is like "a work of love" to them, and he hopes that the fans will like it.
Karen Fukuhara (Katana), too, hopes that the fans are going to like Suicide Squad, as they have "honestly made it for the hardcore DC fans".
We have all been so hyped for Suicide Squad for so long, and it's really depressing that the movie that looked so good in the trailers and TV spots is receiving that much hatred from the critics. Does it deserve all that?
I don't know, because I haven't watched it yet. But I'll definitely watch it. What about you?
