Twentieth Century Fox released Tim Miller's Deadpool and Bryan Singer's X-Men: Apocalypse in 2016, but James Mangold’s Logan is the only Marvel Universe movie that’s been released so far this year. The good news is that the studio has three projects in development for release in 2018: New Mutants, Deadpool 2, and X-Men 7.
Today, the studio officially announced release dates for the three superhero movies. New Mutants, which Josh Boone has had in the works for about two years, will hit the theaters on April 13, 2018. According to a recent rumor, Boone is expected to get the cameras rolling during the first week of June in Massachusetts.
Fox has set a release date of June 1, 2018 for Deadpool 2, the second X-Men movie to be released in 2018, and the most highly anticipated of the three. Even a few months ago, it looked as though the sequel, which had lost its original director, wouldn't make it into the theaters much before 2019. But the studio was quick to find a replacement director in David Leitch, and also signed Zazie Beetz to play Domino and Josh Brolin to play Cable. It’s rumored that shooting for Deadpool 2 will take place from June to September in Vancouver.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix is the newly announced official title for the seventh mainstream X-Men installment, which will roll into the theaters on November 2, 2018. The title speaks for itself; they're once again adapting The Dark Phoenix Saga. The latest rumor suggests that it will start filming on June 4 in Quebec and wrap sometime in October. The movie still lacks a director, but writer/producer Simon Kinberg is in early talks to take the helm.
