Paramount Pictures has released a new Sonic the Hedgehog trailer. This one has been a long time coming and finally shows us the redesigned version of Sonic in action. Safe to say, fans are going to be much happier with the character’s look this time around. While the jury is still out on the movie overall, it’s on much more certain ground. Have a look.
As we can see, this version of the character looks far more faithful to what fans of the Sega video game franchise will be familiar with. He’s more stout. The eyes look right. And, perhaps most importantly, he doesn’t have those creepy teeth. The trailer itself looks to be rather lighthearted and fun. Lots of action and lots of slapstick gags. Jim Carrey, specifically, looks like he’s taken a trip right back to the 90s.
The movie is directed by Jeff Fowler, who makes his feature debut, working from a script written by Patrick Casey, Josh Miller, and Oren Uziel. Ben Schwartz, who voices Sonic, took to Twitter to voice his appreciation for the love that fans have shown for the new design.
“The reaction to this trailer has made my soul smile. Thanks to everyone for all the kind words!!! So excited for everyone to see this movie!!! AHHHHHHHHH!!!” Schwartz said. Elsewhere, lead designer Tyson Hesse also took to Twitter to express his gratitude and appreciation.
“Honored to have been brought in to lead the design on the new Movie Sonic. Working with Jeff and the modelers, riggers, texture/fur artists and animators in LA, London, and Vancouver was a thrill I’ll never forget,” Hesse said.
