A sequel comic for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin has been announced.
IDW Publishing has announced a sequel for the acclaimed comic book Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin.
According to IGN, the highly anticipated sequel comic book, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin II – Re-Evolution, was officially revealed at San Diego Comic-Con. The creative team behind the original The Last Ronin is back, with co-writers Kevin Eastman and Tom Waltz collaborating once again with comic book artists Ben Bishop, Esau Escorza, and Isaac Escorza, as well as colorist Edgar Delgado and letterer Shawn Lee.
The storyline for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin II has been unveiled, continuing from where the original left off. After Michelangelo becomes the last surviving member of the original Ninja Turtles, the new series introduces a fresh group of Turtles — Yi, Uno, Odyn, and Moja. Under the mentorship of their sensei, Casey Marie Jones, they embark on their journey to protect the city, following in the footsteps of Mikey and his siblings Leonardo, Donatello, and Raphael.
Co-Writer Kevin Eastman Wanted to Finish What He Started Over Three Decades Ago
Eastman co-created the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic with Peter Laird. On returning to the world of TMNT to help bring an end to that story with The Last Ronin, Eastman also told IGN, “The real heart and soul for me with dusting off and bringing Last Ronin to life three years ago was my belief ‘Every beginning must have an end.’ With all the respect in the world for my co-creator Peter Laird, I wanted to bring full circle to what we started in 1984 and set out to do in 1987. With Last Ronin, with my friend Tom Waltz and an incredible gathering of brilliant artisans, we accomplished that 33 years later. A very fitting end indeed.”
Waltz explained that The Last Ronin’s immense success as a “publishing sensation” paved the way for the development of a new storyline, branching from the conclusion of the original Turtles’ saga. This progression led to the release of the prequels Lost Years and Last Day before venturing into The Last Ronin II, which introduces an entirely new group of Ninja Turtles.

TMNT senior editor Charles Beachman excitedly teased, “Kevin, Tom, and the entire team have crafted something truly extraordinary for this next installment in the Last Ronin saga. Yes, there will be more Turtles, along with thrilling new adversaries, but the abundance of heart sets this book apart. I can confidently say that this project is a labor of love for everyone involved, and that passion shines through on every page.”
Mark your calendars for December 13, 2023, as that’s when Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin II – Re-Evolution #1 hits the shelves!
