PSA: Marvel’s Eternals Is Now Streaming On Disney+

One of Marvel’s most divisive movies ever is finally streaming on Disney+. Eternals, released exclusively in theaters last year, has officially hit the streaming service following its run at the box office. This is not Premier Access, mind you, meaning it won’t cost subscribers anything extra to view it. The film is now a few clicks of a button away for anyone who has access to the service. And this may well give many fans the chance to re-evaluate it for themselves.

Directed by Oscar-winner Chloe Zhao (Nomadland), Eternals hit theaters in early November, following in the footsteps of Black Widow and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten rings. The idea was that this ambitious sci-fi epic based on the works of Jack Kirby might be able to kickstart a new franchise. It wasn’t dissimilar from what was done with Guardians of the Galaxy, though this was far more serious in tone. Ultimately, critics were wildly divided, with the movie boasting a mere 47% critical rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, moviegoers were a bit more kind to it, and now that it is finally streaming, a wider audience will get the chance to evaluate it.

Here is the synopsis for Eternals.

“Marvel Studios’ Eternals features an exciting new team of Super Heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, ancient aliens who have been living on Earth in secret for thousands of years. Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, an unexpected tragedy forces them out of the shadows to reunite against mankind’s most ancient enemy, the Deviants.”

In terms of box office, it did reasonably well, taking in $401 million worldwide. That’s not bad considering that very few movies have crossed that benchmark during the pandemic. The biggest problem was that the movie carries a $200 million budget. The odds of a sequel now seem slim. Though these characters could carry on elsewhere in the MCU. And there are plenty of characters to revisit.

The cast includes Angelina Jolie, Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Lauren Ridloff, Brian Tyree Henry, Salma Hayek, Lia McHugh, Don Lee and Kit Harrington. Former Game of Thrones star Harrington played Dane Whitman. As many fans may know, he goes on to become the Black Knight. While we didn’t see him suit up this time around, he could certainly take up the mantle in the future.
