One insanely dedicated Marvel fan, who apparently has a good deal of extra cash to spare, has seen Avengers: Endgame more than 200 times. And he doesn’t intend on quitting yet. This fan is a Florida man by the name of Agustin Alanis. He’s been documenting his journey on Twitter and recently had viewing number 201. Have a look.
This 30-year-old superfan first started gaining attention back in June. In an interview with CNN at the time, Alanis revealed the insane schedule that helped get him this far.
“I had bought tickets to watch it five times on the opening weekend so I wouldn’t miss a thing,” Alanis said. “Then, I started going every single day, posting my rounds or views because I really love the film. I go twice on weekdays; Saturday and Sunday, four to five times, [which] is the most I can because of the movie being 3 hours and 2 minutes long,”
This is an absolutely mind-numbing accomplishment. For one, Alanis has spent more than $2,000 on his record-breaking journey. Not to mention watching any movie more than 200 times in the span of just a few months feels like it would wear thin. Apparently not. The math, in terms of time, is also brutal, since the movie clocks in at 3 hours and 2 minutes. Doing some quick math, that equates to three full weeks watching Endgame.
Avengers: Endgame, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, recently dethroned James Cameron’s Avatar to become the highest-grossing movie of all time. Alanis has proved to be no small part of the $2.79 billion achievement.
“From the very beginning with Iron Man, all we’ve wanted to do was tell stories that brought these characters to life onscreen the way we’ve experienced them as fans of the comics,” said Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige speaking about achieving the box office record. “That we’ve had so many other successes in this journey leading to this unbelievable result with Avengers: Endgame has been almost entirely due to the fans around the world who have supported us through it all. Our directors, Anthony and Joe Russo, and our writers, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, really brought this story home, and I am also incredibly thankful for our cast and filmmakers from across the MCU and all who’ve worked so hard to make these films the best they can be, including the amazing teams at Marvel Studios and Disney. And of course, without Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, none of this would have been possible.”
Here is the official synopsis for Avengers: Endgame.
“Adrift in space with no food or water, Tony Stark sends a message to Pepper Potts as his oxygen supply starts to dwindle. Meanwhile, the remaining Avengers – Thor, Black Widow, Captain America and Bruce Banner – must figure out a way to bring back their vanquished allies for an epic showdown with Thanos – the evil demigod who decimated the planet and the universe.”
So what do you think? Is Alanis wasting his time? Or is this money well spent? Will anyone ever be able to top his record? Sound off in the comments!
