Marvel’s Midnight Suns Canceled For The Nintendo Switch

The release of Marvel’s Midnight Suns has officially been canceled for the Nintendo Switch. The critically-heralded tactical RPG video game was originally released in December. At the time, it was available on the Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, PlayStation 5 and PC. A Switch released had been part of the plan. However, 2K Games revealed in announcing the release date for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One releases that the Switch edition has been scrapped.

2K recently revealed a trailer for the Blood Storm DLC, as well as announcing that the PS4 adn Xbox One editions of the game will arrive on May 11. “All four DLC installments (The Good, the Bad, and the Undead; Redemption; The Hunger; and Blood Storm) will be available on launch day to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players who purchase the Legendary Edition of the game or the Marvel’s Midnight Season Pass,” the company said before adding, “Note that a Nintendo Switch version of Marvel’s Midnight Suns is no longer planned.” No reason for the cancelation was provided.

Midnight Suns was met with very strong reviews upon release. However, reports have indicated that sales for the game have been relatively weak. It’s unclear if the game’s sales had anything to do with the Switch edition being scrapped. Though the Nintendo Switch is now six years old. That being the case, it is getting harder and harder to bring next-gen games to the console. 2K had this to say about the forthcoming PS4 and Xbox One release.

“We’re excited to announce that digital versions of Marvel’s Midnight Suns on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are scheduled to launch on Thursday, May 11. This coincides with the release of the fourth post-launch DLC for Marvel’s Midnight Suns: Blood Storm, which introduces Storm as a playable hero and new missions in the DLC-spanning vampyre storyline. If you can rise to the challenge and successfully complete all DLC story missions for Deadpool, Venom, Morbius, and Storm, a final showdown against an age-old monster of myth awaits you!”

Here is the synopsis for Marvel’s Midnight Suns.

“Marvel’s Midnight Suns is the ultimate crossover event combining the rich story, character relationships, customization and progression of an RPG with the tactical strategy and combat mechanics of a revolutionary new card-based tactics game. Set in the darker side of the Marvel Universe, you will forge unbreakable bonds with legendary Marvel Super Heroes and dangerous supernatural warriors in the fight against the world’s greatest threat yet…the demonic forces of Lilith and the elder god Chthon.”

Also worth noting is the fact that the game was recently discounted heavily through most major retailers. The game launched with a $70 price point for the base game. It is, as of this writing, listed for $35 at retailers such as Amazon and Best Buy. The heavy discount this early on suggests sales have not gone as well as Marvel, Firaxis and 2K had hoped.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns is available now.
