Marvel Releases Epic Thor #1 Trailer

Marvel Comics has released a brand new trailer for Thor #1. This is set to be a new era for the God of Thunder, which will be overseen by writer Donny Cates, who is just coming off of Absolute Carnage. The trailer showcases what we can expect from his take on the character, as well as much of the art from Nic Klein. Have a look.

As we can see, the art looks grand an epic, as any good Thor book should. Loki is here and all of the pieces are in place. Writer Jason Aaron is wrapping up his legendary run on the series, which will be a tough act to follow. As is explained in the trailer though, this is a book that new readers can pick up. They won’t have to have read Aaron’s run to fully understand what’s going on, which is always helpful.

If you’ve read anything that I’ve ever done, you know I like to dive deep into mythology, into lore, into gods, and now I get to play with them and build them up and build their mythology out and break them. Break all of them,” Cates says.

The book was initially announced during New York Comic Con. Marvel likes to refresh its lineup from time to time to help draw in new readers. While it’s going to be tough to follow what Aaron did, Cates is one of the most talked-about writers in the business right now, and he has a clear passion for the character.

“In all my wildest dreams, I could never have imagined a world in which I was worthy of writing Thor,” Cates said in a statement when the project was announced. “From Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, all the way to the legendary run I am so foolishly following by the great Jason Aaron, it is beyond an honor to enter the golden halls of Asgard, and to pave the path (Far beyond the fields we know…) for the Thunder God himself. Know that you will have my best, true believers.  For all of you. For Asgard. Forever.”

Here’s the official synopsis for Thor #1.

A BRAND-NEW, SUPERSTAR CREATIVE TEAM TAKES THE KING OF ASGARD TO NEW REALMS OF GLORY! The prince is now a king. All Asgard lies before Thor, the God of Thunder. And after many months of war, the Ten Realms are finally at peace. But the skies above the Realm Eternal are never clear for long. The Black Winter is coming. And the God of the Storm will be powerless before it.”

Thor #1 hits shelves on January 1, 2020.
