The next Marvel Studios Special Presentation is coming soon, and it’s going to be a Christmas special! Marvel has released the trailer for The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, which was first announced in 2020. James Gunn, who has directed all three movies in the trilogy, is returning to helm the holiday special. And it will see Drax and Mantis taking on a pretty interesting mission. Check it out.
So, as we can see, with Gamora gone, Star-Lord is pretty sad. With Christmas just around the corner, Drax and Mantis decide to try and do something nice for him. Their idea? Kidnap Kevin Bacon, the star of Footloose, and gift him to Star-Lord. As fans may recall, Star-Lord has an obsession with Footloose and, specifically, Kevin Bacon. What this does is make it so that Bacon is actually playing a version of himself in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is pretty fun.
Here is the synopsis for The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.
“It’s time to deck the galaxy! Lights, presents, trees, snowflakes, candy canes, and…Kevin Bacon? In the The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, the Guardians, who are on a mission to make Christmas unforgettable for Quill, head to Earth in search of the perfect present.”
The cast includes Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Dave Bautista (Drax), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Sean Gunn (Kraglin), Pom Klementieff (Mantis), Vin Diesel (Groot) and Bradley Cooper (Rocket). The band The Old 97’s are also set to appear, as will Michael Rooker, who previously played Yondu. However, Yondu famously died in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. So it remains to be seen how Rooker will factor in here.
Gunn wrote and directed the special. The executive producers are Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Brad Winderbaum, Gunn, Sara Smith, and Simon Hatt, with David J. Grant and Lars P. Winther serving as co-producers. This is the second Marvel Studios Special Presentation to be released on Disney+. It follows Werewolf by Night, which was released in October just in time for Halloween. It’s expected that more of these one-off specials will happen in the future alongside shows like Loki and Moon Knight.
The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special arrives November 25 on Disney+.
