For those who have been waiting for an excuse to watch Marvel’s Secret Invasion, now may be the time. Marvel has announced that the first three episodes of the series will be streaming on Hulu beginning July 21. The series premiered as a Disney+ original, but Disney and Marvel Studios clearly want to cast a wider net. The announcement comes as the season finale of the show is on the horizon.
The first three episodes, “Resurrection,” “Promises” and “Betrayed,” will be available on Hulu from July 21 to August 17. This will give Hulu subscribers a chance to get on board with the show. But if they want to finish it, they’re going to have to head on over to Disney+ for the second half. Viewership for the series, which stars Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, has been relatively low. It failed to generate the same excitement that WandaVision or Loki managed. As such, it seems Disney is getting creative to try and drum up more viewership. The lack of excitement is especially surprising given that Secret Invasion is based on one of the most beloved Marvel Comics storylines of all time.
Here is the synopsis for Secret Invasion.
“In Marvel Studios’ new series Secret Invasion, set in the present day MCU, Nick Fury learns of a clandestine invasion of Earth by a faction of shapeshifting Skrulls. Fury joins his allies, including Everett Ross, Maria Hill and the Skrull Talos, who has made a life for himself on Earth. Together they race against time to thwart an imminent Skrull invasion and save humanity.”
The cast for the series also includes Ben Mendelsohn, Cobie Smulders, Martin Freeman, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Charlayne Woodard, Killian Scott, Samuel Adewunmi, Dermot Mulroney, Christopher McDonald, Katie Finneran, Emilia Clarke, Olivia Colman and Don Cheadle.
Ali Selim directs the series and executive produces along with fellow executive producers Kevin Feige, Jonathan Schwartz, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Brad Winderbaum, Samuel L. Jackson, Ali Selim, Kyle Bradstreet and Brian Tucker. Kyle Bradstreet also serves as the head writer of the series. Jennifer L. Booth, Allana Williams and Brant Englestein are on board as co-executive producers.
Next up for Marvel is The Marvels, a sequel to 2019’s Captain Marvel. It is due to hit theaters in November. Beyond that, everything else is a bit uncertain. Disney recently had to stop filming Deadpool 3 due to the actor’s strike, and the MCU Phase 4 and Phase 5 slate has already been delayed several times. So there may be a shortage of MCU stuff to watch next year. But for now, we’ve got this show to help fill the void.
The Secret Invasion series finale arrives on Disney+ on July 26.
