Final Trailer For The Marvels Officially Released

The Marvels is nearly upon us, and Marvel Studios has released a final trailer for the film. Ahead of the sequel’s debut in theaters this weekend, we’ve been given a new look at Captain Marvel’s return, along with the other members of her new team: Monica Rambeau and Ms. Marvel. The trailer is also doing a lot of work to try and make this feel like a real event connected to the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There’s even a pretty big cameo in here. Check it out.

As we can see, Marvel is leaning very hard on the Avengers: Endgame connections here. Whether or not this really is tied to the 2019 record-breaking blockbuster remains to be seen. We can also see that a certain someone from the Thor universe is making an appearance. Is it just going to be a cameo? Or are they going to have a larger role in the movie? Again, time will tell. It’s a trailer that leans very hard on nostalgia, that much is certain.

Here is the synopsis for The Marvels.

“Carol Danvers AKA Captain Marvel has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe. When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece, now S.A.B.E.R. astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau.”

This serves as the first Phase 5 MCU to hit theaters since Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania earlier this year. It’s also the sequel to 2019’s Captain Marvel. That film starred Brie Larson as Carol Danvers and took place in the ‘90s. It was also a much bigger-than-expected hit, taking in more than $1.1 billion at the box office. That being the case, the expectations for the follow-up are higher than they normally would be for an MCU sequel. But that movie had the benefit of teeing up Endgame. This feels like a bit more of a standalone adventure.

Nia DaCosta directed the movie. Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden directed the first Captain Marvel but they are not returning for the sequel. The cast also includes Teyonah Parris, Iman Vellani, Zawe Ashton, Gary Lewis, Seo-Jun Park, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Saagar Shaikh and Samuel L. Jackson. Megan McDonnell, DaCosta, Elissa Karasik and Zeb Wells penned the screenplay. Kevin Feige produces the film, with Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Mary Livanos and Matthew Jenkins on board as executive producers.

The Marvels hits theaters on November 10, 2023.
