Channing Tatum Makes Bold Claim About Avengers: Doomsday

Deadpool & Wolverine (Gambit) - Marvel Studios

If you thought Deadpool & Wolverine had some big surprises, just wait for Avengers: Doomsday. That is, if Channing Tatum is to be believed. The actor is reprising his role as Gambit in the upcoming Avengers movie. That movie will see Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr. return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Doctor Doom. Based on what Tatum is saying, that’s truly just the tip of the iceberg.

In a recent interview with ET, Tatum discussed Avengers: Doomsday. Naturally, he can’t say much about it. We know it has an absolutely massive cast. That cast includes former X-Men stars. It also brings back MCU stars from the past 17 years. Tatum promised that there will be moments 50 times bigger than the Blade reveal in Deadpool & Wolverine. Here’s what he had to say.

“[Marvel] set a bar for themselves every movie and they beat it every single movie. And I can tell you this: as I was reading I was like, ‘How are they going to do this?! I don’t know how they’re going to do this.’ You’re just not ready. It’s gonna make your brains ooze out of your ears, like in the way I knew when Blade walks on screen in Deadpool & Wolverine, people are going to physically lose their actual minds. It’s that but maybe times 50. It’s just gonna be one of those things. And just the story…I can’t divulge anything but as a comic fan, you just aren’t ready.”

Wesley Snipes as Blade in Deadpool & Wolverine was a massive moment. Having something that is apparently much bigger than that is a tall order. But directors Joe and Anthony Russo delivered many such big moments in Infinity War and Endgame. They’re returning for Doomsday as well as Avengers: Secret Wars. If anyone can deliver on Tatum’s promise, they can.

Plot details for the movie are being kept firmly under wraps. We know that this will help tee up the ball for Secret Wars, which will conclude the Multiverse Saga in 2027. Other than that, much of what we’ll see next year is a matter of speculation. The Russo Brothers have shared some cryptic teases on social media. But all that does is fuel speculation. For now, we’re still left with more questions than answers.

Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters on December 18, 2026. Avengers: Secret Wars will follow on December 17, 2027.
