Warning: The following article may contain mild SPOILERS for Zack Snyder's Justice League (and perhaps even for James Wan's Aquaman)!
If slight changes to comic book characters in live-action adaptations make you furious, you should probably take a chill pill or two before heading to the theater to see Justice League next month. Be warned that Aquaman and The Flash will be a bit different from the characters you’ve seen in the source materials.
In an interview in the latest issue of SFX Magazine (via ComicBookMovie), Jason Momoa revealed that we won't see Arthur Curry as the ruler of Atlantis in the November 17 release. From what he said, it sounds as though the character still has a long way to go before that does happen:
He’s not the King of the Seven Seas. We don’t really get there until my solo movie, at the end. Really, it’s a huge growth for me. It’s a gigantic arc for Arthur Curry. It may be tough for a lot of fans to watch what they’re gonna see, how I portray him. But you gotta wait until we get to the solo movie to really know. Because he's not King yet.
This may not come as a surprise after Momoa hinted in April that Patrick Wilson's Ocean Master would be sitting on the throne of Atlantis in the standalone Aquaman movie. But the Hawaiian actor also shared that in Justice League, Aquaman neither believes in himself, nor does he know what to do with his powers. On top of that, he's not on good terms with the Atlanteans:
He’s going through tons of loss. He hates Atlanteans. The fact that people are calling him “Aquaman” right now – he couldn’t give two sh*ts about anything Atlantean"¦Some people will be like, “This isn’t my Aquaman.” But we’re not there yet.
And they’re not there yet in regard to Barry Allen (Ezra Miller), either! A gallery at a Justice League event in the Philippines revealed some new details about the Scarlet Speedster that suggest that the character hasn’t even graduated from college, so he can’t be working with the Central City Police Department as a forensic scientist in the upcoming DC superhero extravaganza.
