All good things must come to an end. For The Umbrella Academy, that time is now. Netflix has officially released the final season of the TV show based on the comic book of the same name. The Umbrella Academy season 4, which will serve as the show’s final episodes, is now streaming on Netflix in its entirety. Plan your binge watching accordingly and get ready to say goodby to the Hargreeves family.
The series premiered in 2019. It is based on the Dark Horse Comics title of the same name, written by Gerard Way and illustrated by Gabriel Ba. The show was an instant hit for Netflix, managing to work its way through production even as the pandemic complicated matters. The show also had to contend with last year’s SAG and WGA strikes. That’s part of the reason there was a two-year gap between season 3, which dropped in 2022. But now, through it all, they have reached the finish line.
Here is the synopsis for The Umbrella Academy season 4.
“The Hargreeves siblings have scattered after the climactic showdown at the Hotel Oblivion led to a complete reset of their timeline. Stripped of their powers, each is left to fend for themselves and find a new normal — with wildly varying degrees of success. Yet the trappings of their uncanny new world prove too hard to ignore for very long. Their father Reginald, alive and well, has stepped out of the shadows and into the public eye, overseeing a powerful and nefarious business empire. A mysterious association known as The Keepers holds clandestine meetings believing the reality they’re living in is a lie and a great reckoning is coming. As these strange new forces conspire around them, the Umbrella Academy must come together one last time — and risk upsetting the shaky peace they’ve all endured so much to secure — to finally set things right.”
The cast for the series includes Elliot Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, Justin H. Min,Ritu Arya, Colm Feore, Nick Offerman, Megan Mullally, David Cross
The series was created for TV by Steve Blackman, who also serves as the showrunner. Jennifer Cecil, Mike Richardson, Keith Goldberg, Scott Stuber, Beau Bauman, Pascal Verschooris, Jesse McKeown, Abbey Morris and Jeremy Webb are on board as executive producers alongside Blackman. Way and Ba serve as co-executive producers.
“They didn’t quite do it right,” creator Steve Blackman told Netflix of the ending of the show’s third season. “The universe was reset, but when they return to the timeline in 2019, the world has slightly shifted. The last we saw of them, they all went off on their own paths, figuring out life without their superpowers.”
The Umbrella Academy is streaming now on Netflix.
