The Robots in Disguise are getting a new streaming home. The best part? It’s a free streaming home. Pluto TV has announced that Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is coming to the service beginning July 1. This marks the first time that the movie has been available to stream at no cost since its release.
For those unfamiliar with Pluto TV, it’s an ad-supported, free streaming app that originally focused on free streaming, curated channels, not unlike cable TV. But the streamer has increasingly focused more and more on on-demand content. To that end, Transformers, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and Transformers: Dark of the Moon are currently available on Pluto as well.
Directed by Steven Caple Jr. (Creed II), Rise of the Beasts brought the characters from Best Wars into the fold. It served as a prequel taking place earlier in the timeline in the ‘90s. That puts it after Bumblebee but well before 2007’s Transformers. It also helped tee up the ball for a potential G.I. Joe crossover movie.
Here is the synopsis for Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.
“In this adrenaline-fueled adventure, Optimus Prime and the Autobots take on their biggest challenge yet. When a new threat capable of destroying the entire planet emerges, they must team up with a powerful faction known as the Maximals. With the fate of humanity hanging in the balance, Noah (Anthony Ramos) and Elena (Dominique Fishback) will do whatever it takes to help the Transformers as they engage in the ultimate battle to save Earth.”
The cast includes Anthony Ramos (Noah Diaz), Dominique Fishback (Elena Wallace), Luna Lauren Velez (Breanna Diaz), Dean Scott Vazquez (Kris Diaz), Tobe Nwigwe (Reek), Michael Kelly (Agent Burke), Peter Cullen (Optimus Prime), Ron Perlman (Optimus Primal), Peter Dinklage (Scourge), Michelle Yeoh (Airazor), Pete Davidson (Mirage), Liza Koshy (Arcee), John DiMaggio (Transit / Stratosphere), David Sobolov (Rhinox / Battletrap / Apelinq), Michaela Jaé Rodriguez (Nightbird), Colman Domingo (Unicron), Cristo Fernández (Wheeljack) and Tongayi Chirisa (Cheetor)
Paramount has confirmed that the next Transformers movie won’t be the G.I. Joe crossover. What comes next does remain a bit of a mystery. Part of that might be because Rise of the Beasts made just $441 million at the box office, making it the lowest-grossing live-action Transformers movie to date. The animated Transformers One also underperformed, further complicating matters.
Be that as it may, a new Transformers movie has been confirmed. While details remain under wraps, Paramount still has a motivation to keep the franchise going. Rumors have persisted that former franchise architect Michael Bay may return to the director’s chair. Those are just rumors for the time being though. While we wait, fans will have the opportunity to revisit this movie at no charge.
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts arrives on Pluto TV on July 1.
