Director Taika Waititi has revealed some new details about Thor: Love and Thunder. The filmmaker was recently interviewed by the BBC and the subject of his next Marvel Cinematic Universe adventure came up. According to Waititi, it will be both insane and romantic.
“I think it’s going to be really good. We’ve finished, we’ve been writing the script off and on for over a year and I’m just, actually this week, doing another pass on it,” Waititi said. “It is so insane and it’s also very romantic. I’m into romances now. I just want to make a romance. I just want to make something that I’ve never done or never cared for. I would like to attack something like that.”
It was almost exactly a year ago at San Diego Comic-Con when this film was announced. While many plot details still remain under wraps, we know that Natalie Portman will make her MCU return as Jane Foster. Not only that, but she will also be taking up the mantle of Thor. Chris Hemsowrth will also be returning once more as the God of Thunder.
As for the romantic part of Thor: Love and Thunder, Tessa Thompson previously revealed that she will be looking for a Queen to help her rule Asgard. As fans may well recall, Thor made Valkyrie king of new Asgard on Earth at the end of Avengers. Endgame.
There is no word yet on who the main villain is going to be. What we know for sure is that Oscar-winner and The Dark Knight star Christian Bale has been tapped to play him. Waititi, in addition to directing, will be reprising his role as Korg.
Waititi helped to reinvent the solo franchise with Thor: Ragnarok. The film was met with widespread praise and was a huge bounce back following The Dark World. It was also a huge financial success, bringing in $853 million at the global box office.
Here is the official synopsis for Thor: Ragnarok.
“In Marvel Studios’ “Thor: Ragnarok,” Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok—the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization—at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first, he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger—the Incredible Hulk!”
Thor: Love and Thunder is currently set to arrive in theaters on February 11, 2022.
