Spider-Man: Brand New Day Adds Classic Villain To Its Cast

Marvin Jones III / Tombstone

Tom Holland’s Spider-Man will be mixing it up with a classic villain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvin Jones III has been cast as Tombstone in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day. This, according to Deadline, with the outlet reporting that the rapper and actor is the latest to join the cast of the production, which is currently underway.

What’s interesting is that Jones has played the character previously. He voiced Tombstone in 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. He’s also due to reprise the role in 2027’s Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. Plot details for the film remain firmly under wraps. Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) is in the director’s chair.

Production recently halted after Holland suffered a concussion while filming. The injury is reportedly not serious, with filming set to resume in the coming days. It remains unclear who the main villain of Brand New Day will be, but Jon Bernthal is returning to the MCU as Punisher. Michael Mando will also finally return as Scorpion. Mark Ruffalo is also expected to return as Hulk. It’s shaping up to be an ensemble piece.

Tombstone has been a Spider-Man villain for decades in the pages of Marvel Comics. Created by Gerry Conway and Alex Saviuk, he first appeared in 1988’s Web of Spider-Man #36. A notorious crime boss in New York City, the hulking albino was given superpowers after an incident at Oscorp. Per Marvel, here are his powers…

“Tombstone has superhuman strength—able to lift 6 tons—reflexes and skin toughness, making him bulletproof and highly resistant to temperature extremes (-80° F to 1200° F) and somewhat insulated from electricity. Tombstone’s teeth are filed to sharp points. He is adept with conventional firearms and a skilled streetfighter, specializing in strangulation.”

The cast also includes Stranger Things breakout Sadie Sink. Her role remains under wraps. Liza Colón-Zayas is another newcomer, who stars alongside familiar faces Zendaya (MJ) and Jacob Batalon (Ned Leeds).

Holland’s future as Spidey in the larger MCU, for the moment, remains a big question mark. When the cast for next year’s Avengers: Doomsday was announced, Holland was left out of it. It’s unclear if that’s to preserve a surprise, or if Spidey really is going to sit this one out. There’s a strong possibility he will return for Avengers: Secret Wars, which is due to arrive in late 2027.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to hit theaters on July 31, 2026.
